Council leader welcomes injunction

Rossendale Council Leader, Alyson Barnes, has welcomed news that an injunction has been granted to halt work being carried out at Kippax Mill in Goodshawfold.

The move follows a recent Temporary Stop Notice being issued to the landowner, which he failed to observe.

The Council has now been granted an injunction preventing him, among other things, from changing the use of the land or carrying out further engineering operations to include excavation and the formation of any hard surface or track.

The action is the result of diggers moving onto the site earlier this month to start development work and causing much consternation among local residents.

The Council had spoken with the owner several times, however, the work had continued and as a result the Council used its enforcement powers to put a stop to the actions of the owner.

Councillor Barnes said:

“We have taken resident’s concerns seriously and taken swift action against this landowner. It is unfortunate that we’ve had to go down this route but it has been necessary in this instance to make the landowner stop and talk to us. I hope that other people will think twice in the future before they flout our planning procedures as this demonstrates we won’t hesitate to clamp down on those who think these rules do not apply to them.”
