Rossendale Council has successfully prosecuted 2 people over failure to adhere to clearance notices issued to them which were causing a blight on their neighbourhoods.
Mr Gerard Wroe of Clough Road, Bacup, was issued with a £660 fine, £319.68 costs and £376.14 compensation by the Court for failure to adhere to a section 215 Notice Town and Country Planning Act 1990 over clearance work that was due.
A warning letter was sent out by the Council which was not acted on. This was followed up with the formal notice which was again not acted on by Mr Wroe. Rossendale Council then cleared the garage site, all waste and asbestos as work in default which then lead to the prosecution in court after one of our Operations Supervisors compiled a case file.

Cllr Christine Lamb, Portfolio Holder for Operational Services said;
“A lot of time and hard work goes into these incidents, we are pleased to have won these prosecutions to protect the public purse from paying for incidents such as this. We want to maintain Rossendale as an attractive place to live, work and visit, and whilst we appreciate that the majority of residents take pride in their neighbourhoods, we will take action against the minority who blight the area.”
