Leader welcomes LCC’s recycling centre update

The leader of Rossendale Council has welcomed Lancashire County Council’s latest update on reopening the borough’s recycling centre in Haslingden.

Lancashire County Council has announced it is putting plans in place to reopen the centres but no firm details have been outlined yet.

Councillor Alyson Barnes said:

“A lot of residents have raised with me that they feel Haslingden recycling centre should be open especially as there appears to be a rise in flytipping.

Join in VE Day with stay at home street parties

Residents in Rossendale are being invited to join in with a ‘stay at home street party’ to commemorate 75 years since VE Day.

Due to the coronavirus lockdown, plans to mark the anniversary across the borough have had to be cancelled.

But leader of the council, Councillor Alyson Barnes, hopes the residents will celebrate at home with bunting, afternoon tea and a doorstep sing-a-long.

Borough to pay tribute to fallen key workers

Rossendale Council will pay tribute to key workers who have lost their lives to coronavirus by holding a minute’s silence at 11am today.

Council leader Councillor Alyson Barnes hopes all residents in the borough will take part in a silence to remember all those key workers who have died during the pandemic.

Community hub helps dozens of vulnerable residents

Rossendale’s community hub is being accessed by scores of residents across the borough who need support during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rossendale Connected is a multi-agency partnership linking different organisations to support vulnerable residents who are self-isolating or shielding during the pandemic and need assistance

One of the users of the hub in Chris Worswick, 74, from Bacup, who has Parkinson’s which puts her in the vulnerable group so her husband is not allowed to leave the house.

Council leader wishes borough a Happy St George’s Day

The leader of Rossendale Council is wishing everyone a Happy St George’s Day.

Councillor Alyson said in a statement to mark the day:

“l want to wish everyone a Happy Saint George’s Day and hope everyone can find some  time to mark the day at home.

“I think it also appropriate to mark the day by once again paying tribute to our country’s brave and dedicated key workers – our doctors, our nurses, our pharmacists, our teachers, our local government staff, our social carers, our police officers, our firefighers, our teachers and teaching assistants.

Council welcomes Rossendale business prestigious award

Rossendale Council has praised a Bacup based business which has received Royal approval.

Orthoplastics has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise, described as an MBE for businesses.

They were named in the International Trade category. The citation read:

“Orthoplastics is recognised globally as the leading materials supplier to the world’s orthopaedic device manufacturers.”

Residents encourage to clap for the borough’s key workers

The Leader of Rossendale Council is asking everyone in the borough to take part in a nationwide round of applause for key workers delivering essential services during the coronavirus crisis.

Councillor Alyson Barnes is appealing to residents to join in a gesture of thanks to frontline health and care heroes as well as other workers and volunteers who are delivering essential services by taking part in a mass round of applause from their doorsteps, windows and balconies on Thursday at 8pm.

Fund-raising drive launched as hundreds of  residents are helped thanks to the hub

Rossendale Connected, a new community hub to help Rossendale residents during coronavirus, has taken more than 400 calls since it launched.

The hub, which runs seven days a week, was set-up to  support the communities, families and individuals facing tough times because of the coronavirus outbreak and the stepping up of social distancing and isolation measures.

Coronavirus update

Council staff continue to go above and beyond the call of duty to keep providing essential services, support our most vulnerable residents and support our businesses as much as we can through these extremely difficult times for us all.

It also means we have to make tough but necessary decisions.

Sadly, we have had to make the decision, in line with government advice and guidance, and in line with what other councils have done, to close our cemeteries except to funerals.
