Bold new vision for Haslingden unveiled as funding bid submitted

A “bold and exciting” new vision and plan for Haslingden Town Centre, shaped by residents and businesses, has been published.

Haslingden 2040 has been used as a basis of a bid for National Lottery Heritage Funding, which the Council has submitted a bid for.

It includes plans to create new event spaces, shared green areas for people to meet and better pedestrian links.

So the £2m Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative has come to an end and I think most people will agree it has been a major boost to the town.

You just have to walk around Bacup to see the difference it has made. I have had many people come to speak to me or through Facebook saying the project has been a huge benefit to the town.

Council crackdown on people dumping rubbish on streets

A fine of more than £2,422 was given to a Bacup man found guilty of leaving waste outside his house.

Nicholas Turner, of Springfield Avenue, Bacup, was found guilty of failing to remove bags of rubbish, furniture and wood from outside his home, which had the potential to attract rats and vermin, and also of failing to take all necessary action to prevent new accumulations of rubbish between 25th October 2018 and 20th December 2018.

Play area in Bacup to be transformed this summer

Moorlands play area is undergoing a £130,000 transformation.

The play area in Stubbylee Park will include fantastic new equipment including a jungle climber, five-way swing, scooter roundabout, music cottage, wizard’s hideaway and a cradle seat swing.

Rossendale Borough Council worked with Bacup Pride to secure £30,000 from Lancashire Environment Fund and £80,000 from Viridor for the project.

Council publishes vision for Bacup as bid is submitted to government for future high street funding

A new vision for Bacup, shaped by residents and businesses, has been published.

Bacup 2040 Vision has been used as a basis of a bid for the Future High Street Fund, which the Council confirmed it was applying for last month.

More than £2m of investment has been brought into the town already through the Bacup  Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) fund.

Fountain renovation given green light

Councillors on Rossendale Council’s Development Control Committee have approved plans to install a lighting feature on Bacup Coronation fountain.

As part of efforts to improve the town and thanks to the £2m injection through the Townscape Heritage Initiative, the Council is looking to renovate the fountain.

Now planning permission has been granted, work on the fountain will begin shortly.

Consultation launched on dog control orders

Rossendale Council is asking for views on proposals to renew the borough’s dog control orders.

The consultation can be viewed here. It closes in April.

Councillor Jackie Oakes, portfolio holder for operations, said:

“We want to hear people’s views on this. Dog control orders are not something new. They have been around for a few years but we have to review them regularly.

Bacup THI update from the interim chair

I am delighted to see a new business has moved into the town as a result of the improvements brought about by the THI funding . Crackdown on littering and dog fouling starts next week

A 12-month trial to tackle people who blight the borough starts next week.

This will see private enforcement officers from the firm District Enforcement issuing on-the-spot fines for littering, dog fouling and flytipping from Monday, December 3.

Two dedicated officers will patrol the borough’s streets and parks seven days a week, targeting hot-spots identified by the council.
