Work has begun to make a Haslingden play area better cope with heavy rain.
Victoria Park play area is prone to flooding when bad weather hits so Rossendale Council has invested in improvements such as raising the ground level of the area to help with drainage and fitting new matting.
Welcoming the improvements, Councillor Jackie Oakes, Portfolio Holder for Operations, said:
“We know flooding has been a major issue in Victoria Park when it rains heavily and this is the most cost effective and efficient solution to the problem.

A 12-month trial to tackle people who blight the borough has been approved.
This will see private enforcement officers from the firm District Enforcement issuing on-the-spot fines for littering, dog fouling and flytipping.
Two dedicated officers will patrol the borough’s streets and parks seven days a week, targeting hot-spots identified by the council.

Rossendale Council is supporting national Recycle Week.
Organised by Recycle Now, it is encouraging residents to go “above and beyond” to protect the environment by getting their recycling right.
This means not only recycling but making sure that we put the right things in the right bin.
Recycle Now, the national recycling campaign for England, says people are more motivated than ever to care about the environment thanks to things like the hit TV show Blue Planet II and the campaign to cut unnecessary plastic.

A local charity is to look at the future options for an historic Bacup hall.
Valley Heritage won the tender to work with Rossendale Council on a project to identify possible long-term uses for Stubbylee Hall and potential funding sources for improvements and restoration.
The Grade II listed hall in Stubbylee Park was built in 1808 for the Holt Family who lived there until 1911.

Over 1,000 residents have now signed up to this year’s garden waste collection scheme.
The fortnightly collection runs from March to November and allows people to recycle grass cuttings, leaves, plants, twigs, small branches and hedge clippings.
It was announced in October last year that the collection would be charged at £35 for the year.

A man was fined over £1,000 for repeatedly failing to clear up his dogs’ mess.
Matt Scott, 41, of Hud Rake, Haslingden, was ordered to pay a fine of £660, with £435 costs and a £66 victim surcharge at Burnley Magistrates Court.
Scott was prosecuted by Rossendale Borough Council for letting the waste of his two dogs accumulate on decking behind his house over a period of six months
He had failed to observe an abatement notice served by a Council Environmental Health Officer in June and as a result was prosecuted.

Rossendale Borough Council has issued a fixed penalty notice of £400 for flytipping.
The fine was given to a man from Bury after household waste was found fly tipped next to Wood Lane in Edenfield.

Flytippers are a blight on local neighbourhoods and their disgusting and arrogant behaviour needs to be stopped.

The Environment Agency has launched a Duty of Care campaign to help combat waste crime and to encourage people to take responsibility over what happens to their waste.
It follows an increase across Lancashire in the number of incidents of fly tipping on public and private land.
The campaign has included a crackdown on the illegal movement of waste in Lancashire with rogue traders targeted in three county wide multi-Agency roadside stop checks.
