A clamp down on careless dog owners will take place in Rossendale after the Council introduced new powers, it has been announced.
Following a period of public consultation new Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) will come into force after being signed off at a recent full Council meeting.
The PSPOs give the Council powers to deal more effectively with irresponsible dog owners.

A Rossendale man has been found guilty of eight offences after his boarding establishment for dogs was found to be in breach of licensing rules and for running a boarding establishment without the necessary licence.
Richard Coop pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the conditions of his licence for home boarding under the Animal Establishments Act of 1963 as well as operating a further boarding establishment without the authority of a licence and was ordered to pay a £315 fine, £1,000 in costs and a victim surcharge of £31.

Rossendale Council is asking for views on proposals to renew the borough’s dog control orders.
The consultation can be viewed here. It closes in April.
Councillor Jackie Oakes, portfolio holder for operations, said:
“We want to hear people’s views on this. Dog control orders are not something new. They have been around for a few years but we have to review them regularly.
