The Flood Advisory Service offers ‘on the spot’ support for homes in Lancashire with a roadshow on Rawtenstall Town Square on Friday 6th May
Following the devastating storms that hit Lancashire over the winter, when hundreds of properties were flooded, Rossendale Borough Council has been working closely with The Flood Advisory Service to ensure homeowners and businesses can easily access the advice and information they need at this difficult time.
The Flood Advisory Service is a ‘not for profit’ organisation providing FREE independent advice on practical flood mitigation.
Getting the flood mitigation message in to communities is not a problem for the Flood Advisory Service team who literally bring their 40ft, state of the art Roadshow Trailer in to the heart of the community.
That’s exactly what will be happening in Rawtenstall next week when the FAS Roadshow will be visiting the town centre to raise awareness and offer much needed advice to property owners.
The roadshow will be located on the Market Square between 10.00am & 6.30pm on Friday 6th May. The FAS team, council representatives and Environment Agency staff will be available to answer questions and offer advice.
Flood Advisory Service Managing Director, Sarah Marriott commented;
“It was clear given the severity of the flooding situation across Lancashire, the Flood Advisory Service was perfectly placed to provide information, advice and support the community was looking for. Rossendale Borough Council was really proactive and wasted no time in securing the help of the FAS to support their local residents. Over 400 homes were flooded in the Borough and as a result are eligible for grant funding. We hope by bringing the roadshow to the heart of the town we can inform and reassure homeowners that they can protect themselves for the future; as well as attracting visitors from neighbouring flood affected areas”.
Phil Seddon, Head of Finance and Property Services at Rossendale Council said;
“We have organised this roadshow event with the Flood Advisory Service for our residents to find out about funding opportunities they may be eligible for. We are specifically encouraging those home owners and communities, recently flooded by storm Eva, to apply to the Council for a grant of up to £5k per property to install measures designed to increase future flood resilience within their homes. Such measures could be: flood protection gates, automatic air bricks, cellar pumps, raised platforms for “white goods”, repositioning of electrical sockets, etc.”
