Rossendale Council working with contractors Barnfield Construction have completed the construction of a purpose-built UK headquarters for the US owned Orthoplastics company.

Orthoplastics produce high quality medical products such as knee replacements, mainly for the global export market.

The building has now been handed over to the business with a 25-year lease agreement but will remain under the ownership of the Council.

The facility was supported by a successful Growth Deal funding bid of £1.525m.

Council Leader Alyson Barnes portfolio holder for Economic Development said: “It’s great to see a multimillion-pound investment go into the Bacup and Stacksteads area.

“The new factory will provide an estimated 100 new quality jobs as part of the expansion of production in the borough.

“The Growth Deal bid that was a competitive process was secured by the Council’s Economic Development Team and this helped to support the business case for the Council investment.”

Futures Park has started to come to life after a revised masterplan was produced by the economic development team in 2018.

Plot 1 is earmarked for a new 6,400 sqft, £1.5m Bright Futures Nursery building with construction expected to start soon, creating an estimated 30 jobs. Plot 3 is reserved for the Lee Quarry trail centre.

Plot 4 remains available for suitable enquiries and could accommodate a 20,000 sqft unit industrial unit with yard area. New business enquiries should visit: https://investinrossendale.com/development-opportunities/331
