People are invited to get together with family, friends and neighbours at an event in Rawtenstall in memory of murdered MP Jo Cox.
The Great Get Together at Rawtenstall Town Square from noon to 4pm on Saturday (June 23) is being organised by Jane Boys of the artisan Clog Market in conjunction with Rossendale Council.
It is free and attractions include Water Brass Band, children’s storytelling and crafts, fairground rides, hook a duck, hoopla and a bouncy castle. People can even join in the conga and the hokey cokey.
Food and drink will be available or people can bring a picnic.
The Great Get Together is inspired by Jo who was killed on June 16, 2016, in her West Yorkshire constituency.
Events will take place across the country from June 22 to 24 to mark what have been her 44th birthday. They are intended to draw attention to the majority of people who reject divisive politics and simply want to celebrate all that unites us.
Councillor Barbara Ashworth, Rossendale Council’s Portfolio Holder for Health, Housing, Communities and Customers, said: “Jo believed that we are far more united and have far more in common than what divides us.
“This event is a great way to bring people and communities together to celebrate everything we have in common. It promises to be a lot of fun for people of all ages and a great way to meet new people and make new friends.”
Anyone who wants to organise their own Great Get Together can register their event online. There is also a list of events taking place across the country.
