Lancashire’s Finest Year 7 Girls 5-aside Football Team is right here in the Valley, from Haslingden High School.
The squad consists of Abby Clarke (Everton), Lucy Valentine (Blackburn Rovers), Beth MacDonald (Bury), Chloe Leftly (Haslingden Juniors), Lucy Spence (Bridge) and Beth Hartwell (GK).
They won the Rossendale Schools 5-aside beating Alder Grange, All Saints, BRGS and Fearns to qualify for the Lancashire finals. On Friday 29th January in the Lancashire finals they beat Unity of Burnley 2-0, Ormskirk 3-1 (only conceding a penalty) and Park high 7-0 to qualify for the regional finals Saturday 6th February.
Mrs Berko, PE Teacher and the girls coach, couldn’t be prouder; “The girls are the best quality in a single year group I’ve seen at Haslingden in my 8 years.”
So at the regional finals on Saturday 6th Feb, the girls did the Valley proud. They played against the best teams in the Northwest coming second and only being piped to the post by Alder Community High School in Hyde.
Moving on the girls will be competing as a Year 7 team at 7-aside where they hope to once again win Best in Lancashire and be able to represent Lancashire in the North West for 7-aside.
Well done girls!
