2020 has started well for Civic Pride Rossendale (CPR). Unable to attend the mass Rawtenstall clean up on New Year’s Day, one of our CPR volunteers was in Waterfoot centre at 7am on New Year’s Day to clear up the carnage from the previous evening! Three hours later, the area was transformed as can be seen from the photos of the bus stop on Bacup Road.
At 10.30am, 15 willing volunteers met in the Town Square in Rawtenstall to give the same treatment to centre of the town. As expected, the first section of Bacup Road was the worst due to take away litter, bottles and cigarette ends left by the previous night’s revellers. Later, the entrance to the cemetery where the newly installed CPR planters stand in all their glory benefitted from the leaves being removed.
Day 2 of the new year saw 10 volunteers tidying up a sadly neglected corner in Constablee whilst our Waterfoot volunteer collected two more bags from Burnley Road East as far as Water (a 5 mile trip on a chilly January morning)!
Day 5 saw another 8 volunteers on Phipps car park (behind Altham’s on Bank Street, Rawtenstall) removing weeds, leaves and litter whilst others were on the spur road filling several bags with litter.
All this and more from our Lone Ranger litter pickers and the year has hardly begun, no wonder Rossendale is on the up! Want to join in but not entirely sure? Watch out for our new CPR Taster sessions. Details over the coming weeks.
