Exciting plans to improve the town square area in Rawtenstall have been confirmed with an on-site start expected mid November.
The scheme will see a much-improved area with new parks and garden space and a dedicated events area created. The plans follow on from the council’s earlier decision not to progress with future phases of Spinning Point in order to create a new public area.

The Leader of the Council, Councillor Alyson Barnes has praised residents, emergency services, staff and volunteers for their efforts after heavy wind and rain hit the borough.
There were a number of flooding incidents as bad weather battered the borough. A major incident was declared across Lancashire.
Councillor Barnes said:
It’s been a tough weekend for people and the weather has caused a lot of disruption.

Rossendale Council has expressed its disappointment about County’s decision to close Haslingden Household Waste Recycling Centre for two days a week.
Lancashire County Council’s cabinet has also agreed proposals to change opening times to 9am – 5pm all year round.
Responding to the decision, Councillor Jackie Oakes, Portfolio holder for Operations, said:
As a Council, we are very disappointed about this decision.

Trustees of a Rossendale community association are celebrating after signing a lease to officially take over the running of a local community centre.
The Whitewell Bottom Community Association has signed a 99-year lease for the Whitewell Bottom community centre, taking it off the hands of Lancashire County Council.
The process has been several years in the making, with the group producing a business plan and eventually being successful in completing a community asset transfer.

Parliament has approved an early general election, to take place on Thursday 8 June.
This does not affect the date of the County Council elections, which will take place as planned on Thursday 4 May.

Lancashire County Council’s Highways Department has closed Fearns Moss Road, Stacksteads, Bacup. Heavy rain has added to water built up from a blocked culvert. Under an emergency procedure order the road is now closed with a diversion in place and the road will only re-open once the remedial works have been carried out to resolve the problem.
