Local Plan update

Councillors have agreed for the latest draft of its 15 year local plan to go out to consultation.

The Council approved the report which gives permission to start the consultation but made two amendments.

The recommendations added to the report before it was given the green light were:

  • That this Council ask the Planning Inspector to give full and due consideration to the local community plan in relation to Edenfield.
  • To amend the Plan and 5.5 of the report to remove Barlow Bottoms and state “Gypsy and Traveller Transit site relocated to a small discreet piece of land owned by the Borough Council at the far corner of Futures Park.”

Councillor Christine Lamb, whose portfolio covers planning, said:

“We need a local plan because, without one, we are not protected against speculative development and we have no influence on how our borough grows.

“We have to adhere to government targets and national policy but it is important that residents can help shape it. We will continue to take people’s views on board and there will be opportunities for people to do so.”
