Hello residents of Rossendale! September has come and gone, and it’s time to catch up on the latest activities of our dedicated Mayor, Cllr Andrew Walmsley. This month was filled with a diverse range of events and engagements that showcased the Mayor’s commitment to our wonderful community. Let’s dive into the highlights:
Rossendale Community First Responder’s Anniversary Dinner – September 1st
The month started on a celebratory note with the Rossendale Community First Responder’s Anniversary Dinner at Sykeside Country House Hotel. This event marked 20 years of the CRF’s invaluable service to our community. The Mayor had the honour of presenting the organisation with a certificate to express gratitude for their unwavering dedication.
Edenfield Village Fete – September 2nd
Edenfield Village came alive with the annual Edenfield Village Fete, organised by EVRA. This cherished tradition, dating back to 1977, featured stalls, games, refreshments, and a vibrant atmosphere that brought the community together.
56th Rossendale Round the Hills Walk – September 3rd
On September 3rd, the Rossendale Rotary Club organised the 56th Rossendale Round the Hills Walk at Marl Pits. This long-standing event, dating back to 1966, saw the Mayor presenting certificates to walkers who successfully completed the challenging route.
Opening of Ramsbottom Jigsaw Festival – September 5th
Ramsbottom Jigsaw Festival, a beloved annual event since 2014, had its grand opening on September 5th at St. Paul’s Church. Over the years, this festival has raised an impressive £52,500, which is evenly distributed between two local churches.
North West Air Ambulance Open Day – September 6th
The North West Air Ambulance hosted an open day at Barton Aerodrome on September 6th. It was a fantastic opportunity for the public to meet the dedicated team, learn about their critical pre-hospital care, and even get up close to their life-saving helicopters.
Rossendale 60s Festival – September 9th
On September 9th, Rawtenstall’s Town Square transported residents back in time to the swinging 60s during the Rossendale 60s Festival. Live music, dance, choirs, ukuleles, fairground rides, and stalls filled the air. Attendees were encouraged to don their best 60s attire for an extra touch of nostalgia.
Visit to St Mary’s FC Football Match – September 9th
The Mayor and Mayoress also made time for a visit to a St Mary’s FC football match, showing support for local sports and community events.
Installation Service – September 10th
Rev’d Rod Bevan was installed as an Honorary Canon at Manchester Cathedral on September 10th. Rod’s dedication to the Rossendale community was recognised and honored by the Manchester Diocese.
1969 Air Cadets Annual Awards Dinner – September 16th
September 16th saw the Mayor and Mayoress attending the 1969 Air Cadets Annual Awards Dinner at Burnley FC’s Turf Moor. The Mayor presented awards to Cadets for their outstanding yearly achievements.
Valley Heritage Open Day – September 17th
Stubbylee Hall and St Saviour’s Church in Bacup opened their doors for guided tours on September 17th as part of Valley Heritage Open Day. These events, held annually in September, provide a rare opportunity for the community to engage with heritage sites that are not typically open to the public.
Rossendale Players Production “Albert Nobbs” – September 19th
The Mayor and Mayoress attended a performance of “Albert Nobbs” by the Rossendale Players on September 19th, showing support for the local arts scene.
Dementia Awareness Event – September 22nd
A crucial Dementia Awareness Event took place on September 22nd, hosted by Beacon Dementia and Wellbeing, one of the Mayor’s chosen charities. Held at Longholme Methodist Church, this event aimed to connect the general public with services that can benefit caregivers and families of those living with dementia.
Youth Hub Open Day – September 30th
September came to a close with the Youth Hub Open Day, where the new venue was showcased. This event promises exciting opportunities for the youth in our community.
