Miles and miles of fun

Pupils, council workers and members of the public in Rossendale literally went the extra mile to help take Lancashire around the world.

They took part in the Your Mile Your Way Challenge to complete a mile any way they could – from walking, running, swimming and cycling to dancing or even hula hooping.

The aim was to get at least 24,901 people in Lancashire to take part – and collectively complete the amount of miles it would take to travel around the world.

Pupils from St Saviour’s Primary School walked a mile in Stubbylee Park, Bacup, with refreshments provided by Morrisons supermarket.

Rossendale Council staff also completed a mile walk in the park while there were exercise bikes for workers to use in the reception of Futures Park and the Henrietta Street depot.

Rossendale Leisure Trust held free activities including a dancethon and a tai chi walk.

Your Mile Your Way was coordinated by Lancashire County Council as part of the Active Lives and Healthy Weight programme to tackle obesity and encourage people to do more exercise.
