Leader urges government to provide more financial aid

The leader of Rossendale Council is once again urging the government to fully reimburse the cost of dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Council has received emergency funding, that while welcome, does not fully make up for the loss of income or the additional cost incurred in responding and recovering from the emergency.

Coronavirus update: Strict social distancing still needed

Coronavirus has had a terrible toll on us all in this borough. But we are a resilient folk in Rossendale. And as a borough, we have responded magnificently to this awful virus.

Everyone has played their part in limiting the spread of the virus, protecting the NHS and keeping people safe  – by staying at home, by strictly social  distancing when out, by volunteering to help and by keeping an eye out on vulnerable neighbours.

Residents urged to pray at home during religious festivals

With Ramadan just days away, Muslim residents are being asked not to visit mosques but to continue to stay at home and pray.

In view of the current situation with the increasing numbers in Covid related deaths, restrictions remain in place for the foreseeable future. In fact, further restrictions could be imposed if the situation does not improve.

Coronavirus update

Council staff continue to go above and beyond the call of duty to keep providing essential services, support our most vulnerable residents and support our businesses as much as we can through these extremely difficult times for us all.

It also means we have to make tough but necessary decisions.

Sadly, we have had to make the decision, in line with government advice and guidance, and in line with what other councils have done, to close our cemeteries except to funerals.

Community hub to help Rossendale residents during coronavirus launched

A hub to support the communities, families and individuals facing tough times because of the coronavirus outbreak and the stepping up of social distancing and isolation measures is set to be launched.

Rossendale Connected Hub is a partnership between Rossendale Council, Rossendale Leisure Trust, the Rossendale Primary Care Network, Burnley Pendle Rossendale CVS and a wide range of community partner organisations and volunteers.

Coronavirus: Update from the leader and chief executive [March 25]

This week, the Government announced further measures to try and curb the spread of coronavirus.

This is an extremely worrying time for everyone in the borough.  But it is important we follow the government’s advice and guidance.

The measures to increase social distancing include:

·       Shopping for basic necessities

  • One form of exercise a day
  • Medical need
  • To care for a vulnerable person
  • Travelling to work only when absolutely necessary.

New Chief Executive’s desire to make “positive impact” on people’s lives
