Weir War Memorial Given Grade II Listed Status

Historic England give listed status to Weir War Memorial.

The Secretary of State for Culture Media & Sport has added Weir War Memorial to the list of buildings of Special Architectural or Historic interest and has been granted Grade II listed status.

The announcement was made in time for Armistice Day and the Remembrance weekend, a special service was held at the memorial on Friday November 11th.

Rossendale Neighbourhood Forums Meeting in October

Rossendale residents and representatives of local community groups are invited to attend their local Neighbourhood Forum meeting to find out more about local services and activities and events in their area.

There are four Neighbourhood Forums in Rossendale covering the different areas and meetings are open to all local residents.  The Neighbourhood Forums are informal community meetings to allow networking and information sharing and any agreed action points.

Heritage Experts Visit the Bacup THI

On Friday 8th July (2016) the Association of Preservation Trust visited Rossendale for a tour of heritage sites in the areas. Most notably they met with the THI Project Manager Steven Lever and Project Architect Vic Fletcher, from Equilibrium Architects, who gave a tour of the Bacup THI Project to a group of nearly 50 heritage experts and enthusiasts from the Heritage Trust North West.

Council Takes Action on Those Failing to Clean Up

Rossendale Council has successfully prosecuted 2 people over failure to adhere to clearance notices issued to them which were causing a blight on their neighbourhoods.

Mr Gerard Wroe of Clough Road, Bacup, was issued with a £660 fine, £319.68 costs and £376.14 compensation by the Court for failure to adhere to a section 215 Notice Town and Country Planning Act 1990 over clearance work that was due.

VIC Plan Special Somme Event

This year marks one hundred years since the start of the Battle of the Somme.

As part of the nationwide commemoration in partnership with The Royal British Legion, Veterans in Communities will be opening their centre on Bury Road, Haslingden for an all night vigil. From 7.30pm on Thursday 30th June, until 7.30am on Friday 1st July, the community is invited to join us for all or any part of the night.

Bacup THI Phase 1 Works Nearing Completion

The Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative Project Phase 1 work is now moving towards being completed with over £400k of work on the Pioneer Building and Clock Tower on Rochdale Road and the RSPCA Building at 33 St James Street being successfully carried out.

Investment into the Pioneer Building has new shop fronts installed and new sash windows fitted.

Bacup Graffiti Cleared Up

Rossendale Council has taken swift action on the racist graffiti that has appeared on buildings in Bacup.

Our Street Cleansing Team was out early on Monday morning as it was reported by various shocked members of the community, to begin the clear up.

Due to the nature of the paint used we’ve worked with local company Gumblasters to remove it, and whilst the lengthy work was taking place we took proactive action to paint over the graffiti as it awaited cleaning so that the offensive content was not visible.

Bacup THI Presentation at Bacup Easter Festival

Board members and Project Officers from the Bacup Townscape heritage Initiative (THI) will be in attendance at the Bacup Easter Festival on Saturday March 26th 10am till 3pm to present information on the scheme so far.

The team will be on Bacup Market with an information stall where people will be able to ask question about the work taking place in Bacup, the importance of heritage in Bacup and ways to get involved.
