Bacup Easter Festival Being Held on Saturday 26th March

Bacup will be in festive mood on Easter Saturday when the famous Britannia Coconut Dancers perform their annual Boundary to Boundary Dance but there’s lots more going on besides.

There will be extra stalls on Bacup Market selling local products and gifts, plus retro vintage stalls.  There will be face painting and balloon modelling from Trinity Baptist Church and Lancashire Wildlife Trust will be there with their nature table, quiz and colouring activity.

Fearns Moss Road Closure

Lancashire County Council’s Highways Department has closed Fearns Moss Road, Stacksteads, Bacup. Heavy rain has added to water built up from a blocked culvert. Under an emergency procedure order the road is now closed  with a diversion in place and the road will only re-open once the remedial works have been carried out to resolve the problem.

Stubbylee Masterplan Launched with Successful Walk

The Stubbylee Masterplan was officially launched with a 1 mile walk round the Park’s grounds on 19 February. Local residents braved the cold weather to walk round the new way-marked route lead by walk leader James Kenyon from Newground.

The permanent way-marked route is part of the Council’s successful Up & Active Project.

The Stubbylee Park Masterplan

Rossendale Borough Council is working with local community groups and Newground to revitalise Stubbylee and the Moorlands Park, Bacup.

The Council has been formulating the masterplan for Stubbylee with the Park’s Friends Group, Bacup Pride, Newground, Stubbylee Community Greenhouses and local ward Councillors, to come up with a prosperous plan for this wonderful community asset.

Lancashire Leaders in English Tourism

Marketing Lancashire is celebrating the announcement that the prestigious Visit England Awards for Excellence 2016 which will take place at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool on Tuesday 8 March, during English Tourism Week (5-13 March) and four Lancashire Tourism Awards 2015 winners have beaten strong competition from across the country and will now represent Lancashire as finalists.

Update on the Local Plan Part 2

At Council on 9th December 2015 it was agreed unanimously to cease work on the Site allocations and Development Management Policies Development Plan Document, the Local Plan Part 2, also known as Lives and Landscapes’ and to start work on preparing a new Local Plan for Rossendale.

The reasons underpinning this decision were set out in the Report to Council, which is available to view on the Council’s web site.

Rossendale Council Launches New Scheme to Help “Flood Proof” Properties and Businesses

Rossendale Council has announced central government details of a scheme to help householders and businesses make their properties more resistant to future floods. Under the scheme, householders and businesses affected by Storms Desmond and Eva in Rossendale can apply to the Council for grants of up to £5,000 to help make their homes/businesses more resilient to flooding in the future.

Defibrillator Installed at Council Offices

A potentially lifesaving piece of equipment has been installed at Council offices at Futures Park, Bacup.

The Council’s Facilities Team has organised the installation of a Community Public Access Defibrillator (CPAD) on the side of the building at Futures Park, which can be accessed 24/7 and can help save the lives of those going through cardiac arrest.
