Residents are invited to get involved, debate and help shape the future of health and social care in East Lancashire at an upcoming engagement event.

NHS and local councils in Pennine Lancashire, which is made of East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen, are working together to change the way health and social care is delivered in the area.

Three Rossendale Projects Up for Aviva Community Fund Prize

Three Rossendale projects are in with a chance of getting the finals of the Aviva Community Fund.

The Aviva Community Fund offers the chance for local community projects to win funding for their community project. It will finance over 800 projects across four different fund levels and six categories, spreading the awards to communities throughout the UK.

Kelly’s Hero Crowned on Rawtenstall Market

Thursday’s usual trading day on Rawtenstall Market was like no other…a hero was named live on ITV!

Jack Buckley was surprised by ITV’s Jake Quickenden at Rawtenstall Market has he was named a Kelly’s Hero live on the Lorraine Kelly Show.

Just over a year ago, Jack, a plumber from Rossendale, took the brave and risky decision to and be a live donor for close family friend Pat Foden-Purser who needed the life-saving liver surgery after being diagnosed with polycystic liver disease 14 years ago.

Community Column: Queen’s Award Nomination for Civic Pride

Civic Pride were nominated for this prestigious award last year in recognition of our achievements in helping to transform our valley for all to enjoy, residents and visitors alike. It was proposed by Cllr Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council and supported by Jake Berry MP.

“Be prepared” Flood Campaign Launched in Lancashire

Lancashire County Council has launched a campaign to help people be better prepared for possible flooding.

The campaign highlights the fact that flooding can happen almost anywhere, often without warning, during and after heavy rainfall – and that being prepared can significantly reduce its impact on people and property.

County Councillor Marcus Johnstone, cabinet member for environment, planning and cultural services, said: “Over the last few years, we have seen the devastating impact of heavy rainfall in Lancashire where people have had to leave their homes and seen valuables destroyed by flood water.

Community Column: ‘Interpreting Acre’ Project Events

The Friends of Acre Village are hosting two events in autumn to celebrate their ‘Interpreting Acre’ project. This project was funded by a Sharing Heritage grant of £9,900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The first event is a ‘Beating the Bounds’ guided walk around the rediscovered historic boundary of Acre Village.

Rossendale Secures New Community Specialist Paramedic

Following the work of Rossendale Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Task and Finish Group on the North West Ambulance service the Council is delighted to announce a new Community Specialist Paramedic role for Rossendale.

Richard Peters assumes the role as the new Community Specialist Paramedic (CSP) for the Rossendale area.

Richard joined the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust as a trainee technician in 1991 and qualified as a Paramedic in 1993.

Community Column: News From Ski Rossendale

Ski Rossendale is working towards becoming a centre for the new and totally unique reduced risk training centre for our British Park and Pipe freestyle squads. 

Should this further development reach final approval funding for the project will come from Sport England.

A Planning application has been submitted to Rossendale Borough Council for the specific requirements.

Hundreds gather to celebrate best of local health innovation

Hundreds of visitors descended on Blackburn Cathedral last week to celebrate the best of local health and social care.

The celebration of innovation event gathered together health and social care professionals, third sector organisations, service users and members of the public to highlight the work that has taken place over recent years, as well as offering a chance to hear about some exciting new developments.

Nest Lancashire Launched

Nest Lancashire, the support service for young victims of crime, bullying and harassment in Lancashire has launched its website on Friday 30 September. The website, which can be found at www.nestlancashire.org offers information and guidance to young people aged 10 to 18 who have been left hurt or upset following a crime or incident.
