Grant Funding Available to Support to Local Groups

The latest round of the Rossendale Community Fund has been launched and local organisations are invited to apply for a grant from the Fund before the deadline of 14 October.  

The Rossendale Community Fund was created by Rossendale Borough Council in partnership with the Community Foundation for Lancashire to offer grants to support projects that help families, children and young people in Rossendale engage in community activities and learning.

Samba Band Beats the Drum for Health Innovation Event

Blackburn Cathedral will swing to the sounds of samba at an upcoming event celebrating the best of health and social care in East Lancashire.

Suco Suco Samba – a drum and dance troupe for people in recovering from addiction formed by East Lancashire support group ‘Juice’ – will headline the celebration of good practice and innovation taking place on Thursday September 29, from 10-3pm.

Tom Takes Silver!

Rawtenstall swimmer Tom Hamer has won silver in the Mens 200M Freestyle (S14) at the Rio Paralympics.

All of Rossendale is cheering Tom on and wishes him all the best for his next event, the 200M Individual Medley (SM14). Heats take place on Saturday 17th September at 15:10 with the final at midnight.

Good Luck Tom!

Tom Hamer, from Rawtenstall, will be Rossendale’s representative in the Rio Paralympics as he competes in the swimming pool.

Tom impressed the Para-Swimming world when he stormed to silver at the Commonwealth Games which was his international debut and he has since built on this performance to win medals at the European and World Championships

On his World Championship debut at Glasgow 2015 Hamer made an instant impact in the S14 classification securing himself a bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle and just missed out on the chance of another medal in the SM14 200m Individual Medley finishing fourth overall.

Community Roadwatch at Schools in Rossendale

From the start of the new school year, the Rossendale Police Community Roadwatch team are going to continue operations outside several local schools where there have been problems over the last twelve months with motorists parking on the Zig Zag lines outside.

This action is causing a serious risk to children being dropped off and picked up by limiting visibility as they are crossing the road.

We’re delighted that Darren won the individual North West final and is now in the national final.

Mayor Opens the New Outdoor Gym in Victoria Park

The Mayor of Rossendale, Cllr Granville Morris, officially opened the new outdoor gym which has been installed in Victoria Park in Haslingden.

The gym features 6 pieces of state of the art equipment, designed to exercise different parts of the body to provide a full workout.   It is located at the end of the path by the main entrance, overlooking the lower part of the park with fantastic  views of the surrounding hills.

Rossendale Ranks High in Top Schools and Afforable Property List

Rossendale’s Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School ranked 9th in the country following new research.

Online estate agent eMoov analysed house prices and the average GCSE scores in the top 50 state secondary schools in England.

The top performing state school with the best value property nearby is the Heckmondwike Grammar School in Kirklees, West Yorkshire.

Community Column: Light Up Your Lanterns

The first workshop at Bacup Cricket was very vibrant and successful, there being a good mixture of 38 creative people, young, and not as young, creating some beautiful lanterns for the Parade on the 29th October.

The next workshops will be as follows;

Fearns School Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th August – this has to be booked in advance and as it’s during Theatre Week it’s already booked up!
