Improvements to Waterfoot Centre

Rossendale Council unveils proposed plans for improvements to Waterfoot Centre.

Following the building of the new residential development, Whitwell Court, Rossendale Council has made funding available to improve the adjacent public space and car park area.

A public consultation exercise was undertaken in 2015 to find out how local residents would like the area to be improved and what features they would like incorporating into the plans.

Bacup Easter Festival Being Held on Saturday 26th March

Bacup will be in festive mood on Easter Saturday when the famous Britannia Coconut Dancers perform their annual Boundary to Boundary Dance but there’s lots more going on besides.

There will be extra stalls on Bacup Market selling local products and gifts, plus retro vintage stalls.  There will be face painting and balloon modelling from Trinity Baptist Church and Lancashire Wildlife Trust will be there with their nature table, quiz and colouring activity.

Council Wins Brownfield Register Funding

Rossendale Borough Council has successfully bid for £10,000 to pilot a Brownfield Register under the Brownfield Register Pilots Fund.

The Council was one of the 36 successful bids (also including Pendle and Hyndburn Council’s) covering 58 authorities. The pilot has 4 key stages which aims to see Local Authorities share best practice.

Residents Get Cleaning for Queen

Volunteers across the Valley came out on Saturday to help clean up the town centres and nearby streets as part of the national Clean for The Queen campaign.

The Haslingden clean up was jointly organised by local community group Love Haslingden, and Rossendale Borough Council. 25 bags of litter and rubbish were collected on Saturday and local Girl Guides group 1st Haslingden collected a further 8 bags on Sunday around Snig Hole Park in Helmshore.

Flood Resilience Grants Reminder

People affected by December’s floods are being urged to take advantage of a Government scheme to help householders and businesses make their properties more resistant to future floods.

Under the scheme, householders and businesses affected by Storms Desmond and Eva can apply for grants of up to £5,000 to help make their homes more resilient to flooding in the future.

Council backs #regafriend Campaign

Rossendale Council is backing the Electoral Commission and National Union of Students’ joint campaign to get more students and young people registered to vote ahead of the local and Police and Crime Commissioner elections in May.

Called #RegAFriend (‘Register a Friend’), the campaign urges students and young people who have already registered to vote to encourage their non-registered friends and family to now do the same, by sharing messages and photos on social media.

Valley Jobs Fair

The ever popular Jobs Fair is back in Bacup this Thursday, 3rd March, at Central Methodist and Christ Church 10am till 2pm.

Some of the Valley’s employers will be there with opportunities.

The Council will be there detailing roles they offer and Officers from the Bacup THI Project will be there detailing training opportunities available to local people.

Pioneering New Dog Technique Trialled by Council

Rossendale Borough Council has recently trialled dog training and behaviour specialist Scamp’s in order to resolve a neighbour dispute in Whitworth over dog barking.

The dog had separation issues when its owner left the house and would bark which would cause noise nuisance to the neighbour.

Scamp’s worked with the very co-operative owner and trained the dog with techniques to counteract its separation issues.
