Show your support for Armed Forces Day

A flag raising ceremony will be held in St Mary’s Gardens, Rawtenstall, to support Armed Forces Day.
Armed Forces Day gives people the opportunity to show their support for the men and women of the Armed Forces past and present and the sacrifices they made and continue to make.
The armed forces community is diverse and includes reservists, veterans, cadets, and service families.

Have your say on Lancashire’s Levelling Up fund bid

People can now have their say on how Lancashire County Council will shape a £50 million levelling up bid which aims to bring investment to the east of the county.

To support jobs and businesses, provide for a greener environment, and improve the health of residents, the council is applying to the government’s Levelling Up Fund and is asking local people to get involved in shaping these proposals.

Free training for Rossendale businesses

Valley Heritage in partnership with Rossendale Council and Lancashire County Council are offering free online training to individuals and companies in the construction industry to assist in whole house domestic retrofit. 

The project funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund, awards a NOCN Level 2 in Understanding Domestic Retrofit (UDR) on completion of the course.

Residents invited to share ideas for Victoria Park improvements

Rossendale Borough Council are working alongside Haslingden Community Partnership and Community Interest Company Proffitts – Investing in Communities on a project to improve Victoria Park in Haslingden.

The project is in its early stages and one of the first steps will be to invite interested local residents and park users along to the site to meet the team, highlight any issues they have with the space and discuss their own ideas for enhancing the park.

Skaters help secure funding for improvements

Rossendale Borough Council have secured £98,000 from Viridor Credits Environmental Company to help with the refurbishment of the Stubbylee Skate Park. 

Local skaters approached Rossendale Council to work together to help them to improve the skate park.  

Skater Jack Nuttall said: “We initially contacted Cllr Andrew Walmsley to ask if anything could be done to improve the quality of the skate park surface and the ramps, they are old but still really well used.

Help on offer for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Rossendale Borough Council has announced that small grants are available to support public events which are open to all in the borough, to celebrate the Queen’s platinum Jubilee.  

Constituted community organisations can apply for up to £500 to assist with things like refreshments, insurance, and decorations for events to be held over the celebration weekend of 2 – 5 June.

Small grants make a big impact to Whitworth groups

Whitworth Community Partnership has since the beginning of 2022, awarded grants to three local groups allowing them to purchase goods they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford. 

Women of Whitworth (WoW) received £156, Whitworth in Bloom received £250, and The Ashcroft received £250. 

The Whitworth Partnership which is managed by Rossendale Council and is made up of organisations such as Whitworth Town Council, Police, local residents and various community groups – can give grants of between £150 and £250 to groups that provide added value to residents of the borough.

Public Consultation on Haslingden 2040 Vision and Masterplan

Rossendale Borough Council is asking the public for final feedback on proposals in the Haslingden 2040 Vision and Masterplan. 

Rossendale Council announced in summer 2021 they had successfully secured £1.8million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) and would be making a further £200,000 contribution from the council. 

The 5 year project will focus on Upper Deardengate and will be a major step in the delivery of the Haslingden 2040 Vision & Masterplan.

Cards for Kindness launches as Christmas countdown continues

A heart-warming winter campaign encouraging people to send Christmas cards to residents in local care homes has launched this week (1 December). 

Cards for Kindness, now in its fourth year, aims to tackle loneliness and isolation in care homes across Lancashire and South Cumbria. 

The idea is that opening the Christmas card helps to start conversations and bring back happy memories.

Peace vigil to mark start of Knife Angel Lancashire programme

An open invitation is being shared to a candle-lit peace vigil on Thursday 4 November to mark the start of the Knife Angel Lancashire education programme. Created by the British Ironwork Centre, the Knife Angel is a national monument built to inspire change. Acting as a catalyst for dialogue, education and reflection, the Knife Angel highlights the devastating impact this type of violent crime can have on individuals, families and communities.
