There’s not long left to show local heroes some love as Rossendale Council’s Community Awards’ nominations close this week.
The new awards scheme aims to recognise those individuals and groups whose efforts have made a big impact in their local community.
Whether it’s a sports coach who gives up their evenings and weekends, someone special who lends a hand at a local charity, or a group that makes a real difference to where people live they can all still be nominated until Friday, September 27.

The project will involve new play equipment for children aged 0-16 including a zip-wire, new safety surfacing, drainage for the play area and a football pitch and a picnic area, to replace the old and worn play equipment. New pathways will be installed meaning that the Play Area will be accessible to all.

Rossendale Borough Council has secured £50,000 to provide Rossendale residents with little or no cost insulation and brand new A-rated boilers.
It may be summer now but it’s never too early to start preparing for the colder weather.
Qualifying residents in Rossendale could receive funding towards the costs of home heating upgrades and insulation measures to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and reduce their fuel bills.

A clamp down on careless dog owners will take place in Rossendale after the Council introduced new powers, it has been announced.
Following a period of public consultation new Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) will come into force after being signed off at a recent full Council meeting.
The PSPOs give the Council powers to deal more effectively with irresponsible dog owners.

On the hottest day of the year so far, eleven scouts from the 45th Rossendale group assembled at Jubilee Gardens in Crawshawbooth to start the clean-up that the area so desperately needs.
This initiative contributes towards the Scouts World Challenge Award, the idea of which is to inspire young people to volunteer for activities within their community.

The Bacup Now Easter Festival is on its way with a massive line-up for kids big and small.
Taking place on Saturday, April 20th, from 10am to 4pm at Bacup Market and on Irwell Terrace, there will be the traditional Britannia Coconut Dancers Easter Boundary Dance, a chance to meet ‘Star Wars’ characters and performances by Dansworks Dance Academy of Performing Arts and The Rossendale Drum Majorettes.

Rossendale Council has agreed to ring fence £160,000 to support Haslingden town centre as a fresh bid for funding is prepared.
Working with the recently re-established Haslingden Taskforce, the Council is preparing a bid for Heritage Funding.
A bid was made last year but while unsuccessful, the Council received many positive comments and has been encouraged to submit a further one this year.

Rossendale Council is encouraging anyone who lives or works in the borough to borrow through credit unions instead of high interest money lender sites.
Credit unions are community savings and loan cooperatives, where members pool their savings to lend to one another. They are organisations that are run by their members for the benefit of the members.

Local organisations are invited to apply for a grant of up to £750 from the Fund before the deadline of February 22nd.
The Rossendale Community Fund was created by Rossendale Borough Council in partnership with the Community Foundation for Lancashire to offer grants to support projects that help families, children and young people engage in community activities and learning.

Men and women boxers joined up to support the White Ribbon Campaign.
A partnership between Rossendale Leisure Trust and Rossendale Borough Council promoted the campaign at local boxing clubs – Community Boxing Club in Rawtenstall, Pioneer Gym in Bacup and Boxing Bootcamp in Haslingden.
The core of the national White Ribbon campaign is ending violence against women and those signing up take the pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about men’s violence against women and girls.
