The leader of Rossendale Council has praised the community spirit in the borough as hundreds of people gathered at services to remember the fallen.
Events were held across Rossendale to commemorate Remembrance Sunday and mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.
Councillor Alyson Barnes said:
“Lots of people and community groups have been involved in making sure the borough’s events to mark this important occasion ran smoothly.

Trustees of a Rossendale community association are celebrating after signing a lease to officially take over the running of a local community centre.
The Whitewell Bottom Community Association has signed a 99-year lease for the Whitewell Bottom community centre, taking it off the hands of Lancashire County Council.
The process has been several years in the making, with the group producing a business plan and eventually being successful in completing a community asset transfer.

Rossendale Council’s communities team is providing support and guidance for people who want to throw a street party to mark Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day on May 19.

Rossendale will come together to salute the nation’s war heroes during this year’s Remembrance commemorations.
Several events will take place across the borough to remember those who made sacrifices to defend the country.

There will also be a Festival of Remembrance Event on November 5 at St Mary’s Church in Rawtenstall on November 5.

The Leader of Rossendale Council Councillor Alyson Barnes, has praised Civic Pride Rossendale after they were awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.
Last Wednesday, Civic Pride Rossendale were one of only five groups from Lancashire to be awarded the award, which is known as the MBE for volunteer organisations it is the highest recognition that a voluntary organisation can receive in the UK.

Across the valley, volunteers from all sectors of the community give up their own time to help others either directly or indirectly.
On Saturday 21st October, from 11am to 3pm Civic Pride will be hosting a day of celebration at Kay Street Baptist Church and are inviting other local voluntary groups to join them to thank volunteers’ past and present and encourage others to join them.

NHS East Lancashire CCG is pleased to announce that following the 12 week consultation and feedback from patients received in summer 2016, a consortium of GP Provider Organisations, which are made up of local GP practices, are collaborating together to develop and deliver new models of extended GP services.
The models, being developed by GP Provider Organisations and the CCG, involving patients from the beginning, will offer extended access to GP services across East Lancashire.

Three grants have been awarded to Veterans In Communities to secure projects over the coming years.
Their long-term funder the East Lancashire NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has
approved a further grant for two years – a total of £160,000 – while £8,000 has been agreed by ABF, The Soldiers’ Charity and £21,710 from Heywood Middleton and Rochdale Social
Investment Fund.

The Rossendale Befriending Service aims to reduce social isolation for people and, if applicable, their partners or carers by arranging for a Volunteer Befriender to visit their home and provide some company.
Volunteer Befrienders are carefully selected and care is taken to match the needs and interests of the Befriendee.
