Balladen Winners for Fallbarn Park Signs

Fantastic new signs for Fallbarn Park!

The new junior play area at Fallbarn which was launched in October this year has just been made more welcoming by new signage designed by pupils at Balladen Community Primary School.

Pupils from years 2, 3, 5 and 6 all provided designs for the signs and the winners were chosen by members of the Friends of Fallbarn Park and staff from Proffitts – Investing in Communities.

Rossendale Council Grants 2017/18 and 2018/19 Application Process Opens

Following Cabinet approval in November, Rossendale Borough Council has opened the application process for Rossendale Council Grants.  

Cllr Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council said;

“We recognise that these are difficult times for many people and there are some key challenges for Rossendale residents.  Although the Council still has to make savings, we have made £62,000 available each year for the next 2 years for the provision of targeted grants for services to support financial inclusion in Rossendale, and for small community grants through the Neighbourhood Forums.”

Interpreting Acre Village Exhibition

The Friends of Acre Village have been awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery for their Interpreting Acre Project.   The group is working with Proffitts, Lancashire County Council and Rossendale Borough Council with the aim of obtaining funding to preserve, restore and interpret the history of this interesting Victorian Village.

Rossendale’s Tom is a Nominee for Young Sports Personality of the Year

Double Silver Winning Tom is hoping to make it into the final three of the prestigious BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year Award.

Everyone in Rossendale will be aware that Tom Hamer, from Rawtenstall, won two silver medals in two separate events at the Rio Paralympics and set two British records in the process.

Rossendale Council Supports White Ribbon Campaign

The national awareness day will be supported by Rossendale Council with 5th December being Rossendale Council’s internal day of awareness.

White Ribbon is an international campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence. The United Nations has designated 25 November as International Day for the elimination of violence against women and girls.

Community Column: Where Has All the Litter Gone?

Civic Pride rally Rossendale into becmoing litter free.

Walk down Bacup Road in Rawtenstall early on Sunday morning and you’ll doubtless see plenty of fast food litter, cans, bottles and cigarette ends strewn across the pavements. Take Away corner is a reminder of what most of Rossendale used to look like before Civic Pride and other volunteers got to grips with the problem.

Mayor Supports Rossendale Hospice Youth Enterprise Challenge

The Mayor of Rossendale is taking part in the Youth Enterprise Challenge and attended the opening event recently.

Six Rossendale schools will take part in the challenge, using their entrepreneurial skills to raise money for Rossendale Hospice. Each year 10 school team will be joined by a business mentor from various local businesses to help them with their project.

2016 is Water Band’s 150th year. To celebrate we’re having ‘A Bit Of A Do’ at the bandroom on Saturday 12th November between 3pm and 7.30pm and we would like to invite you along to help us mark this momentous occasion.

We are inviting past players and social members of the band, relatives of current and past players, friends and neighbours of the band, organisers who have booked the band this year, and anyone with an interest in Water Band and its aims.
