Civic Dignitaries and members of the public all came together on Monday June 20th for the flag raising ceremony at St Mary’s Garden’s, Rawtenstall.
The Mayor, Cllr Granville Morris, led the respects in this event to mark armed forces day.
The event aimed to raise awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in her majesty’s armed forces and it gives people an opportunity to show our support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community: from currently serving troops to service families and from veterans to cadets.

The people of Rossendale went to the polls on Thursday June 23rd in the EU Referendum that was taking place.
Turnout in Rossendale was 72.4%
The total number of ballot papers verified was 38,205.
The total number of eligible electors was 52,750.
The total number of votes cast for ‘REMAIN’ was 15,012
The total number of votes cast for ‘LEAVE’ was 23,169
24 Ballot papers were rejected.

Voters are being reminded to make sure they are ready to take part in the EU Referendum on 23 June.
Across Rossendale voters will be going on June 23rd to cast their vote in the EU Referendum.
Joanne Smith, Elections Manager at Rossendale Council said:
“Putting a cross in a box might seem simple, but there are plenty of things voters need to consider in order to be ‘referendum ready’.

A LIVE broadcast, which allowed Rossendale residents to ask the police and council questions about anti social behaviour, has been hailed a success.

Monday, 20th June, 2016 will see the Armed Forces Flag Raising Ceremony take place at St Mary’s Gardens, Rawtenstall.
Assembly will be at 9.50 a.m. for ceremony to commence at 10.00 a.m.
The Mayor (Cllr Granville Morris) will be in attendance and will be accompanied by Sir David Trippier, Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire.

Rossendale Borough Council recently conducted Operation Considerate in Manchester City Centre in April. |
Working alongside Greater Manchester Police we stopped and checked 11 Rossendale licensed vehicles.
Of these vehicles, 3 were suspended, 2 were given defect notices and 3 were given written warning on smoking and children in the front seat.

Rossendale Borough Council and Leeds City Council team up to conduct joint enforcement activity on Taxis in Leeds city centre. |
Enforcement Teams from Rossendale and Leeds Councils worked from 20:00 – 04:30 hours on Friday 20 May 2016 to stop and check taxis.
6 Rossendale licensed vehicles were stopped and dealt with.

The Council’s flag is flying at half-mast in Rawtenstall as a mark of respect for Honorary Alderman Mrs Dorothy Ramsden.
We have been advised today that sadly Honorary Alderman Mrs Dorothy Ramsden passed away yesterday (May 19th). She was made Honorary Alderman in 2008 in recognition of her 19 years service as a borough Councillor for Acre and Town between 1973 to 1976 and Greenfield Ward between 1976 and 1992.

Operation Spartacus, a taxi enforcement exercise, was deployed by Rossendale Borough Council’s Licensing and Enforcement Unit and Lancashire Police during the evening of Saturday 14th May 2016 throughout Rossendale
During the evening, 20 licensed hackney carriages were stopped and inspected of which 4 vehicles were issued with suspension notices for faults such as; defective lights, defective windshield, unreported accident damage, bald tyres, damaged seat belts and interiors.
