Flood Advisory Service Roadshow in Rawtenstall

The Flood Advisory Service offers ‘on the spot’ support for homes in Lancashire with a roadshow on Rawtenstall Town Square on Friday 6th May

Following the devastating storms that hit Lancashire over the winter, when hundreds of properties were flooded, Rossendale Borough Council has been working closely with The Flood Advisory Service to ensure homeowners and businesses can easily access the advice and information they need at this difficult time.

Disruption to Waste Collections Today

Due to condition weather conditions, collections from remote properties for today (Thursday 28th April 2016) have been suspended.

Every effort will be made to complete today’s other collections where access is possible and it is safe to do so, however current conditions may result in limited success in areas on a gradient or where vehicle manoeuvrability is limited.

Work of Council’s Environmental Health Team Rectifies Public Health Issue

Rossendale Borough Council’s Environmental Health Team has successfully worked with residents and neighbours of a property that was creating a serious public health issue.

The Council’s Environmental Health Team received reports of a leaking soil stack (see photo 1) at first floor level in a property. When an Environmental Health Officer visited there was toilet waste and tissue paper down the back wall of the house.

Rossendale Borough Council is inviting local people to apply to become a Standards Independent Person.  The Standards Independent Person is consulted on alleged breaches of the code of conduct for councillors, parish councillors and co-opted members.

The council has a duty to promote and maintain high standards of conduct by its elected members and co-opted members.

Rossendale Council is inviting local people to apply to become a co-opted member of the Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

The Overview and Scrutiny Committee assists the Council in policy development, the monitoring of performance, as well as scrutinising the quality of services to local people.

Important Registration Information for the EU Referendum

If you are currently registered to vote you can take part in any election/referendum. For example, if you are registered to vote in the local/PCC elections on 5th May you can vote in the EU referendum on 23rd June. You DON’T have to re-register for the EU vote.

The important thing is to be registered – and you have until 7th June to do that if you want to take part in the EU referendum.

Another Community Column piece from Civic Pride Rossendale

Surely one of the premier industrial estates in the valley it is often the first, last and indeed lasting impression of Rossendale for its many visitors whether they come by car, van or HGV.

Early in March 2016 the Haslingden branch of Civic Pride supported by a few Rawtenstall members, realising what a despicable state the area was in, decided to do something about it.
