Rossendale Borough Council Adopts New Conservation Strategy

Rossendale Borough Council has adopted a new Conservation Strategy for 2016-2021.

The Conservation Strategy shows the Council’s commitment to heritage and celebrates the Valley’s rich architectural history.

The strategy will provide the Council with a new strategic approach to conservation, accompanied by the Conservation Officer post we have in the Council.

Council Wins Brownfield Register Funding

Rossendale Borough Council has successfully bid for £10,000 to pilot a Brownfield Register under the Brownfield Register Pilots Fund.

The Council was one of the 36 successful bids (also including Pendle and Hyndburn Council’s) covering 58 authorities. The pilot has 4 key stages which aims to see Local Authorities share best practice.

Flood Resilience Grants Reminder

People affected by December’s floods are being urged to take advantage of a Government scheme to help householders and businesses make their properties more resistant to future floods.

Under the scheme, householders and businesses affected by Storms Desmond and Eva can apply for grants of up to £5,000 to help make their homes more resilient to flooding in the future.

Council backs #regafriend Campaign

Rossendale Council is backing the Electoral Commission and National Union of Students’ joint campaign to get more students and young people registered to vote ahead of the local and Police and Crime Commissioner elections in May.

Called #RegAFriend (‘Register a Friend’), the campaign urges students and young people who have already registered to vote to encourage their non-registered friends and family to now do the same, by sharing messages and photos on social media.

Valley Jobs Fair

The ever popular Jobs Fair is back in Bacup this Thursday, 3rd March, at Central Methodist and Christ Church 10am till 2pm.

Some of the Valley’s employers will be there with opportunities.

The Council will be there detailing roles they offer and Officers from the Bacup THI Project will be there detailing training opportunities available to local people.

Councils to Give Final decision on Lancashire Combined Authority

COUNCILLORS across Lancashire will decide whether to press ahead with plans for a Combined Authority after a public consultation gave overwhelming support to the proposal.

Each of the 14 councils taking part in the process will take a report to members in the coming weeks to seek approval to submit a bid to Central Government.

The Mayor of Rossendale’s Charity Ball 2016

The Mayor, Councillor Marilyn Procter, will be hosting a Charity Ball at Rossendale Golf Club, Ewood Lane, Rossendale on Friday, 8th April, 2016.

Proceeds from the event will go to the ‘Mayor’s Charity Fund’, the main beneficiaries of this year’s fund will be The Star Centre, The RAFT Foundation and Young Carers at BPRCVS.

Pioneering New Dog Technique Trialled by Council

Rossendale Borough Council has recently trialled dog training and behaviour specialist Scamp’s in order to resolve a neighbour dispute in Whitworth over dog barking.

The dog had separation issues when its owner left the house and would bark which would cause noise nuisance to the neighbour.

Scamp’s worked with the very co-operative owner and trained the dog with techniques to counteract its separation issues.

Partnership Pleased Rawtenstall Town Centre Plans Given Green Light

Members of the Rossendale Together Barnfield Joint Venture Partnership Board have welcomed news that plans to redevelop Rawtenstall town centre have been approved.

Councillor Alyson Barnes, Chair of the RTB Partnership and Leader of the Council, said: “I am pleased the scheme has been given planning permission. We listened to people and now I believe these plans are the right mix of preserving the area’s heritage as well as creating a vibrant town centre.
