The leader of Rossendale Council, Councillor Alyson Barnes, has paid tribute to emergency services after they battled a major fire in Haslingden.
The Council has been working closely with Lancashire Fire, Lancashire Police and Lancashire County Council as the emergency services deal with the fire at a building on Blackburn Road.

Haslingden Town Centre has been now been confirmed as an area of special architectural or historic interest – helping to preserve its history.
The conservation area was developed and put out to public consultation in 2018. The Council’s cabinet approved the area before submitting it to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, who confirmed the decision earlier this year.

The Leader of Rossendale Council has welcomed news that a bid for funding for Haslingden town centre has progressed to the next stage.
Earlier this year, the Council submitted an expression of interest to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for money to help transform the town. The Council also ring-fenced money to support the bid.

A local Haslingden company has won a prestigious Queen’s Award for enterprise.
Firesafe Fire Rated Ductwork Limited picked up the award for outstanding continuous growth in overseas sales over the last six years.

Rossendale Council has agreed to ring fence £160,000 to support Haslingden town centre as a fresh bid for funding is prepared.
Working with the recently re-established Haslingden Taskforce, the Council is preparing a bid for Heritage Funding.
A bid was made last year but while unsuccessful, the Council received many positive comments and has been encouraged to submit a further one this year.

A business owner has been ordered to pay £405 following a row over shop shutters.
Syeda Monzu Uddin, owner of Haslingden Food Store, appeared at Burnley Magistrates Court charged with non-compliance with an Enforcement Notice and was fined £200 with costs of £175 and a victim surcharge of £30.
Action was taken by Rossendale Council in August to remove roller shutters from the Haslingden Food Store after the owner did not comply with an order to take the shutters down.

Work has begun to make a Haslingden play area better cope with heavy rain.
Victoria Park play area is prone to flooding when bad weather hits so Rossendale Council has invested in improvements such as raising the ground level of the area to help with drainage and fitting new matting.
Welcoming the improvements, Councillor Jackie Oakes, Portfolio Holder for Operations, said:
“We know flooding has been a major issue in Victoria Park when it rains heavily and this is the most cost effective and efficient solution to the problem.
