Freedom Parade Comes to Haslingden

Rossendale Borough Council is delighted to officially announce that the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment will be parading through Haslingden next week for the Freedom of Rossendale celebrations.

The Freedom Parade will be taking place in Haslingden on Thursday, July 21st, 2016 to mark the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment Freedom of the Borough of Rossendale.

Council Takes Action on Those Failing to Clean Up

Rossendale Council has successfully prosecuted 2 people over failure to adhere to clearance notices issued to them which were causing a blight on their neighbourhoods.

Mr Gerard Wroe of Clough Road, Bacup, was issued with a £660 fine, £319.68 costs and £376.14 compensation by the Court for failure to adhere to a section 215 Notice Town and Country Planning Act 1990 over clearance work that was due.

VIC Plan Special Somme Event

This year marks one hundred years since the start of the Battle of the Somme.

As part of the nationwide commemoration in partnership with The Royal British Legion, Veterans in Communities will be opening their centre on Bury Road, Haslingden for an all night vigil. From 7.30pm on Thursday 30th June, until 7.30am on Friday 1st July, the community is invited to join us for all or any part of the night.

Council Take Action on Outdoor Laundrette

Rossendale Council’s Planning Enforcement Team has today served notice on the outdoor laundrette structure at the Nisa Store on Deardengate, Haslingden.

This action comes after thorough investigation from our Planning Department.

The owner has now been asked to remove the launderette facility from the front of the building within the required timeframe.

Haslingden Deep Clean About to Start

Work to undertake a deep clean of streets in Haslingden is due to start on Tuesday 22nd March and last for 12 days; it will be undertaken by Rossendale firm Gumblasters.

The work has come out of the £100k Rossendale Council allocated to the Haslingden Task Force, who have set out their key priorities and regeneration plans for Haslingden Town Centre.

New funding agreed for Haslingden Pool

Rossendale Borough Council is further supporting the aims of Haslingden Baths Community Interest Company (CIC) as they work on renovating Haslingden Swimming Pool.

In additional to the £25k grant and £25k loan the Council gave the group in 2015 to support improvements to the building, a further £100k will be given to the group to support the renovation work.

New outdoor gym installed

A new, free outdoor gym is being installed in Victoria Park in Haslingden.

The gym, which will be located at the end of the path by the main entrance, will feature 6 pieces of equipment designed to exercise different parts of the body to provide a full workout.  A board with full instructions will also be installed.

Residents Get Cleaning for Queen

Volunteers across the Valley came out on Saturday to help clean up the town centres and nearby streets as part of the national Clean for The Queen campaign.

The Haslingden clean up was jointly organised by local community group Love Haslingden, and Rossendale Borough Council. 25 bags of litter and rubbish were collected on Saturday and local Girl Guides group 1st Haslingden collected a further 8 bags on Sunday around Snig Hole Park in Helmshore.

Task Force Working to Improve Haslingden

Haslingden Task Force met in February and has agreed some key projects to support the town. Rossendale Borough Council has provided £100,000 of funding through the Task Force to provide a catalyst to develop regeneration initiatives in Haslingden.

£50,000 has been allocated to the Shop Front Improvement Scheme through which business owners in the town centre can apply for grants for 50% of the cost of improving their shop front, up to a maximum of £2000.

Girls are the Pride of Rossendale

Lancashire’s Finest Year 7 Girls 5-aside Football Team is right here in the Valley, from Haslingden High School.

The squad consists of Abby Clarke (Everton), Lucy Valentine (Blackburn Rovers), Beth MacDonald (Bury), Chloe Leftly (Haslingden Juniors), Lucy Spence (Bridge) and Beth Hartwell (GK).

They won the Rossendale Schools 5-aside beating Alder Grange, All Saints, BRGS and Fearns to qualify for the Lancashire finals.
