Free training for Rossendale businesses

Valley Heritage in partnership with Rossendale Council and Lancashire County Council are offering free online training to individuals and companies in the construction industry to assist in whole house domestic retrofit. 

The project funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund, awards a NOCN Level 2 in Understanding Domestic Retrofit (UDR) on completion of the course.

Residents invited to share ideas for Victoria Park improvements

Rossendale Borough Council are working alongside Haslingden Community Partnership and Community Interest Company Proffitts – Investing in Communities on a project to improve Victoria Park in Haslingden.

The project is in its early stages and one of the first steps will be to invite interested local residents and park users along to the site to meet the team, highlight any issues they have with the space and discuss their own ideas for enhancing the park.

Rossendale Forest ask for volunteers for final planting sessions

Rossendale Council are asking for volunteers for the last push to plant the remaining 1000 trees of the Rossendale Forest initiative. 

Rossendale Forest, the council’s tree planting initiative to plant a tree for every child in the borough over the next three years- that’s 16,000 trees – has successfully planted more than 6,000 trees since the start of the year.

Skaters help secure funding for improvements

Rossendale Borough Council have secured £98,000 from Viridor Credits Environmental Company to help with the refurbishment of the Stubbylee Skate Park. 

Local skaters approached Rossendale Council to work together to help them to improve the skate park.  

Skater Jack Nuttall said: “We initially contacted Cllr Andrew Walmsley to ask if anything could be done to improve the quality of the skate park surface and the ramps, they are old but still really well used.

Help on offer for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Rossendale Borough Council has announced that small grants are available to support public events which are open to all in the borough, to celebrate the Queen’s platinum Jubilee.  

Constituted community organisations can apply for up to £500 to assist with things like refreshments, insurance, and decorations for events to be held over the celebration weekend of 2 – 5 June.

Keeping the old as good as new

Bacup High Street Heritage Action Zone is holding a training seminar on 13 March at ABD Centre in Bacup, to give advice and guidance on caring for heritage properties.  

The session which has been arranged in conjunction with Valley Heritage,  will run for two hours from 10.30am and will demonstrate how to maintain paintwork, gutters, ironmongery and stonework; give advice on appropriate cleaning approaches and products for your property and advise on how to prevent building issues before they arise.

Rossendale partnership leads young people into employment

Four young people who have struggled to get into work have been given a life changing opportunity that has resulted in them being offered full time employment for a major manufacturer in Haslingden.

They accessed essential employment-focused training sessions and hands on work experience to boost their skills and confidence, which has directly led to job offers at Interfloor, Europe’s largest manufacturer of carpet underlay and flooring accessories.

Council urge residents to pay for council tax by direct debit to speed up energy rebate

Rossendale Borough Council is encouraging all residents that do not already pay council tax by direct debit to register to do so by 17 March. 

The Government has announced measures to help households with rising energy bills and this includes a £150 Council Tax rebate for homes in bands A-D. 

A council spokesperson said: “If people pay for their council tax via direct debit, then this money will automatically be sent direct to their bank account, and they will not be required to fill in any applications for the rebate.

Bacup 2040 Vision Board Supports Revised Scheme for Bacup Market Square

Rossendale Borough Council have presented revised proposals for Bacup Market Square to the Bacup 2040 Vision Board.  

The new proposed redevelopment of Bacup Market Square includes a new market hall, which will include a permanent food area, as well as spaces for traditional market traders.  

There will also be a new temporary market space, which will be used by regular traders as well as for special events.

Operation Trident strikes again

Rossendale Council has carried out an extensive clean-up operation in parts of Haslingden after receiving a high number of calls from members of the public.  

The area between Bury Road and Manchester Road leading up to Deardengate has had issues over recent months with incidences of fly tipping and general waste accumulation increasing.
