Historic England give listed status to Weir War Memorial.
The Secretary of State for Culture Media & Sport has added Weir War Memorial to the list of buildings of Special Architectural or Historic interest and has been granted Grade II listed status.
The announcement was made in time for Armistice Day and the Remembrance weekend, a special service was held at the memorial on Friday November 11th.

Last night Rossendale Borough Councillors approved the recommended changes to the Council’s Taxi Licensing Policies following recent consultation.
The changes are being brought in by the Council in order to ensure we maintain the highest standards in public safety and to ensure that robust policies are in place providing transparent guidance to applicants, existing licence holders and all other stakeholders.

Civic Pride rally Rossendale into becmoing litter free.
Walk down Bacup Road in Rawtenstall early on Sunday morning and you’ll doubtless see plenty of fast food litter, cans, bottles and cigarette ends strewn across the pavements. Take Away corner is a reminder of what most of Rossendale used to look like before Civic Pride and other volunteers got to grips with the problem.

The Mayor of Rossendale is taking part in the Youth Enterprise Challenge and attended the opening event recently.
Six Rossendale schools will take part in the challenge, using their entrepreneurial skills to raise money for Rossendale Hospice. Each year 10 school team will be joined by a business mentor from various local businesses to help them with their project.

From collecting waste to environmental health checks, and community grants to planning approval, the hundreds of vital local services delivered by councils will be brought to life in 140 characters when staff from Rossendale Council take part in a tweetathon on Tuesday 15 November.
We will be among thousands nationwide to tweet using the hashtag #OurDay, to give residents an insight into the hundreds of jobs councils do every day.

On Thursday 10 November, Blackburn Cathedral, the Cathedral of Lancashire was a stunning venue for Marketing Lancashire’s annual Lancashire Tourism Awards, supported by host sponsors Blackburn with Darwen Council and headline sponsor University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).
Award-winning journalist and broadcaster Bill Turnbull was guest presenter, entertaining the audience and guiding the event masterfully through eighteen awards.

Our Festival of Remembrance Concert was held at St Peter’s Church, Haslingden on Sunday 6th November 2016.
The concert was opened by a poignant reading from Christopher Kelly-Brown, who performed ‘A Wish’, a poem written by Maxine Kendall.
The Haslingden Concert Band played some well-known songs including the best of James Bond, Putting on the Ritz and Lord of the Dance, which had everybody clapping along.

With this cold weather upon us, we thought it may be worth sharing this link to report faults to Lancashire County Council, the highways authority in Rossendale.
Lancashire County Council refill our grit bins, repair pot holes, fix broken street lights, unblock drains, grit our roads and many other functions all of which become more of an issue in the cold winter weather and calls are already increasing about these issues.

Rossendale Council has now had confirmation of the strike by the taxi trade, after circulating rumours that they intended to go on strike. They have notified us that the strike is a withdrawal of service and takes place with immediate effect on the morning of Wednesday 9th November 2016, however it is still unclear for how long the strike will last.
