As winter sets in across the UK, the Met Office, the UK’s national weather service, is urging the UK public to prepare themselves for the winter ahead. The Get Ready for Winter campaign aims to help raise awareness of the dangers posed by winter weather
and provide tips and advice on how to minimise its impact.

Inspiring children and young people from Lancashire can now be nominated to receive a recognition award as part of Lancashire Children and Young People’s PROUD Awards.
The awards recognise the successes and contributions made by looked after children and young people, or those who have previously been looked after. A child is ‘looked after’ if they are in the care of the local authority for more than 24 hours.

2016 is Water Band’s 150th year. To celebrate we’re having ‘A Bit Of A Do’ at the bandroom on Saturday 12th November between 3pm and 7.30pm and we would like to invite you along to help us mark this momentous occasion.
We are inviting past players and social members of the band, relatives of current and past players, friends and neighbours of the band, organisers who have booked the band this year, and anyone with an interest in Water Band and its aims.

Councils in Lancashire are celebrating after being awarded £260,000 of funding just weeks after setting up a shadow Combined Authority for the county.
The money will go towards creating better homes for residents while opening up new areas for employment sites, potentially creating hundreds of new jobs.
The money has been granted through the Government’s One Public Estate programme, which provides practical and technical support and funding to councils to deliver property-focussed programmes.

Tackling isolation and loneliness in Rossendale.
The Government has made money available to local authorities wishing to try new ways of improving the health and wellbeing of their local communities. Rossendale was successful in securing funding to run a pilot project.
In Rossendale we are focussing on the issue of social isolation and loneliness – looking at reaching more people, understanding their individual circumstances and supporting them into services and activities in the community.

Residents are invited to get involved, debate and help shape the future of health and social care in East Lancashire at an upcoming engagement event.
NHS and local councils in Pennine Lancashire, which is made of East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen, are working together to change the way health and social care is delivered in the area.

On Friday 28th October at the Britain in Bloom Award Ceremony , Civic Pride were finally made aware of how much the Royal Horticultural Society were prepared to recognise the dedication, inspiration and sheer hard graft shown by all their hardworking volunteers and supporters.
Eight members of Civic Pride travelled to Southport to learn their fate and this is how their day went…
After coffee we took our places at the lunch table whilst winners of specific competitions were announced – including Best Newcomer, Civic Pride Rawtenstall!

Double Paralympic silver medallist Tom Hamer was the special guest at Rossendale Leisure Trust’s ‘Celebration of sport’ event at the Riverside, Whitworth.
The event, which took place on Friday 21st October, was part of the Trusts annual acknowledgement of sport in the Valley.
The evening played host to a variety of achievers including teachers and children from Thorn primary school, Ski Rossendale, fundraisers for Rossendale Hospice Vikki Hardwick and Richard Watts, promising badminton player Akshay Narayan and Whitworth Water Ski Academy.

Three Rossendale projects are in with a chance of getting the finals of the Aviva Community Fund.
The Aviva Community Fund offers the chance for local community projects to win funding for their community project. It will finance over 800 projects across four different fund levels and six categories, spreading the awards to communities throughout the UK.

Thursday’s usual trading day on Rawtenstall Market was like no other…a hero was named live on ITV!
Jack Buckley was surprised by ITV’s Jake Quickenden at Rawtenstall Market has he was named a Kelly’s Hero live on the Lorraine Kelly Show.
Just over a year ago, Jack, a plumber from Rossendale, took the brave and risky decision to and be a live donor for close family friend Pat Foden-Purser who needed the life-saving liver surgery after being diagnosed with polycystic liver disease 14 years ago.
