UCLan Innovation Clinic Workshops Come to Rossendale

Two free workshops are being held in Rossendale to help businesses with developing a new product and bringing it to market.

The events are being held at the Kingfisher Business Centre, Rawtenstall, BB4 8EQ, on October 11th and 19th.

The two day workshop will equip businesses with the knowledge needed to get their product transformed from a good idea into a best seller!

Could you be a Councillor and stand for what you believe in?

The county council is asking people to consider if they could be a councillor ahead of next year’s county elections.

Lancashire County Council is holding local elections in May 2017 and new candidates are needed to represent their areas. There will be 84 seats available to cover the 12 Lancashire district areas.

Grant Funding Available to Support to Local Groups

The latest round of the Rossendale Community Fund has been launched and local organisations are invited to apply for a grant from the Fund before the deadline of 14 October.  

The Rossendale Community Fund was created by Rossendale Borough Council in partnership with the Community Foundation for Lancashire to offer grants to support projects that help families, children and young people in Rossendale engage in community activities and learning.

Double Medal Haul for Terrific Tom

Rawtenstall’s Tom Hamer has finished his 2016 Rio Paralympics with 2 Silver Medals.

Over the weekend he won his second silver in the Men’s 200M Individual Medley (SM14) to accompany the silver he won in the Mens 200M Freestyle (S14).

This is a terrific success for Tom and everyone at Rossendale Borough Council congratulates Tom on his achievement.

Regenerate Pennine Lancashire to become Growth Lancashire

Regenerate Pennine Lancashire has changed its name to Growth Lancashire.

Regenerate has provided business support and economic development services for the East Lancashire local authorities and Lancashire County Council since 2011.

In recent years the Company has been delivering Lancashire wide business support programmes such as the Government’s flag-ship Regional Growth Fund scheme.

Council Announcement Around Proposed Haslingden Bin Changes

Rossendale Borough Council has today taken the decision, following discussions with those affected, to halt the introduction of a small scale recycling project for 300 houses  in Haslingden. 

The project was developed in response to concerns expressed by this community about waste, fly tipping and recycling.

We are now taking a brief pause on the project because we are aware that both the scale and nature of the project has been misunderstood, and this has caused community concern.

Samba Band Beats the Drum for Health Innovation Event

Blackburn Cathedral will swing to the sounds of samba at an upcoming event celebrating the best of health and social care in East Lancashire.

Suco Suco Samba – a drum and dance troupe for people in recovering from addiction formed by East Lancashire support group ‘Juice’ – will headline the celebration of good practice and innovation taking place on Thursday September 29, from 10-3pm.

Successful Heritage Open Day at Stubbylee Hall, Bacup

Valley Heritage, working alongside Rossendale Borough Council, were once again able to open up Stubbylee Hall to the public this year. Over 75 people attended throughout the day and were able to explore the attics; cellars and other ‘secret’ places rarely open to the public.

Stephen Anderson, Chair of Valley Heritage said: “The Heritage Open Day was a great success and was very well attended by local people as well as drawing in visitors from the neighbouring boroughs of Burnley and Bury.

Tom Takes Silver!

Rawtenstall swimmer Tom Hamer has won silver in the Mens 200M Freestyle (S14) at the Rio Paralympics.

All of Rossendale is cheering Tom on and wishes him all the best for his next event, the 200M Individual Medley (SM14). Heats take place on Saturday 17th September at 15:10 with the final at midnight.

Fostering Needs You!

Each week 20 local children need a family so we need foster carers from all backgrounds to provide loving homes.

Lancashire County Council would particularly like to recruit foster carers who are able to care for:

  • Brothers and sisters.
  • Older children and teenagers.
  • Children that will be in foster care long term.
