Tom Hamer, from Rawtenstall, will be Rossendale’s representative in the Rio Paralympics as he competes in the swimming pool.
Tom impressed the Para-Swimming world when he stormed to silver at the Commonwealth Games which was his international debut and he has since built on this performance to win medals at the European and World Championships
On his World Championship debut at Glasgow 2015 Hamer made an instant impact in the S14 classification securing himself a bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle and just missed out on the chance of another medal in the SM14 200m Individual Medley finishing fourth overall.

Rossendale Borough Council’s Licencing Enforcement Team have secured a conviction in Court for a hackney carriage licence driver who failed to declare a conviction.
Shahid Javaid, of Arnold St, Huddersfield, pleaded guilty on August 19th at Burnley Magistrates Court to Fraud by False Representation. He was fined £80 in total and was ordered to pay £150 costs.

From the start of the new school year, the Rossendale Police Community Roadwatch team are going to continue operations outside several local schools where there have been problems over the last twelve months with motorists parking on the Zig Zag lines outside.
This action is causing a serious risk to children being dropped off and picked up by limiting visibility as they are crossing the road.

Following the success of the Heritage Open Day last year, Valley Heritage and Rossendale Borough Council are pleased to announce that Stubbylee Hall in Bacup will be open to the public again this year. This event will be Sunday 11th September between 11am and 2pm. Access to the Hall will be via guided tours of 15 people, available to book on the day.

Rossendale Council has paid tribute to a much loved colleague Andrew Duckworth who sadly died at the weekend.
Stuart Sugarman, Chief Executive of Rossendale Council, said:
“The thoughts and sympathies of everyone at Rossendale Council are with Andrew’s family. Andrew worked here for many years and had many friends. He will be very much missed by both his colleagues and the people he served.

The Mayor of Rossendale, Cllr Granville Morris, officially opened the new outdoor gym which has been installed in Victoria Park in Haslingden.
The gym features 6 pieces of state of the art equipment, designed to exercise different parts of the body to provide a full workout. It is located at the end of the path by the main entrance, overlooking the lower part of the park with fantastic views of the surrounding hills.

Rossendale’s Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School ranked 9th in the country following new research.
Online estate agent eMoov analysed house prices and the average GCSE scores in the top 50 state secondary schools in England.
The top performing state school with the best value property nearby is the Heckmondwike Grammar School in Kirklees, West Yorkshire.
