Council Takes Action on Those Failing to Clean Up

Rossendale Council has successfully prosecuted 2 people over failure to adhere to clearance notices issued to them which were causing a blight on their neighbourhoods.

Mr Gerard Wroe of Clough Road, Bacup, was issued with a £660 fine, £319.68 costs and £376.14 compensation by the Court for failure to adhere to a section 215 Notice Town and Country Planning Act 1990 over clearance work that was due.

Council Launches Council Tax Support Scheme Consultation

Rossendale Borough Council has launched a 12 week consultation on its Council Tax Support Scheme for 2017/18.

The consultation comes after Central Government announced a number of welfare changes in its 2015 Summer Budget, some of which apply to the Housing Benefit Scheme.

Rossendale Borough Council’s Council Tax Support Scheme has remained unchanged since April 2013, except for the annual uprating of applicable amounts/premiums keeping it in line with the Housing Benefit Scheme and is formally ratified annually by Full Council.

Rawtenstall Residents to Benefit from Major Power Project

More than 11,000 homes and businesses in Rawtenstall, Rossendale are set to benefit from a £650,000 engineering project which starts today, to improve power supplies in the area. 

The new five-month project, starting Monday 27th June, will secure power supplies by replacing 3.8km of underground cable along Haslingden Road and Bacup Road which have been in place for 60 years.

Armed Forces Flag Raised as St Mary’s Gardens

Civic Dignitaries and members of the public all came together on Monday June 20th for the flag raising ceremony at St Mary’s Garden’s, Rawtenstall.

The Mayor, Cllr Granville Morris, led the respects in this event to mark armed forces day.

The event aimed to raise awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in her majesty’s armed forces and it gives people an opportunity to show our support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community: from currently serving troops to service families and from veterans to cadets.

Rossendale Taxi Procedure Update

Rossendale Council has recently taken a variety of steps to make changes to the Hackney Carriage/Private Hire application process and address the number of Rossendale licensed drivers and vehicles working in other areas.

Firstly, we have implemented a Hackney Carriage Intended ‘Use’ policy (adopted at 24th February 2016 Council).  Any applications for a new hackney carriage vehicle licence where there is no intention to use the vehicle predominantly in the Borough of Rossendale are refused.

The area around Turnpike/Burnley Road East/Booth Road crossroads in Waterfoot has had a facelift thanks to Civic Pride volunteers Liz and Ian Hoskins.

VIC Plan Special Somme Event

This year marks one hundred years since the start of the Battle of the Somme.

As part of the nationwide commemoration in partnership with The Royal British Legion, Veterans in Communities will be opening their centre on Bury Road, Haslingden for an all night vigil. From 7.30pm on Thursday 30th June, until 7.30am on Friday 1st July, the community is invited to join us for all or any part of the night.

Rossendale Result in EU Referendum

The people of Rossendale went to the polls on Thursday June 23rd in the EU Referendum that was taking place.

Turnout in Rossendale was 72.4%

The total number of ballot papers verified was 38,205.

The total number of eligible electors was 52,750.

The total number of votes cast for ‘REMAIN’ was 15,012

The total number of votes cast for ‘LEAVE’ was 23,169

24 Ballot papers were rejected.

Voters are being reminded to make sure they are ready to take part in the EU Referendum on 23 June.

Across Rossendale voters will be going on June 23rd to cast their vote in the EU Referendum.

Joanne Smith, Elections Manager at Rossendale Council said:

“Putting a cross in a box might seem simple, but there are plenty of things voters need to consider in order to be ‘referendum ready’.
