Stubbylee Masterplan Launched with Successful Walk

The Stubbylee Masterplan was officially launched with a 1 mile walk round the Park’s grounds on 19 February. Local residents braved the cold weather to walk round the new way-marked route lead by walk leader James Kenyon from Newground.

The permanent way-marked route is part of the Council’s successful Up & Active Project.

Senior Management Re-Structure

A planned re-structure of Rossendale Council’s senior management will save taxpayers nearly £15,000 in the first year.

Councillors will be asked to back the restructure when they meet at full council on February 24th.

The restructure will reduce the number of director roles but will also help make the Council more business-like and help generate additional income which can be put back in improving services.

Overview and Scrutiny Review of North West Ambulance Service

During 2015, Overview and Scrutiny established a task group to look at reasons for below target response times for Rossendale, which in November 2014 were 60.7% against a target of 75%.

The task group visited the 999 Control Centre in Broughton and the 111 service in Bolton, as well as spoke to Paramedics at both Rawtenstall and Stacksteads Ambulance Stations.

Road Surface Improvements to Be Carried Out

Lancashire County Council (LCC), the Highways Authority in Rossendale, carried out road surfacing work last year on a number of sites in Rossendale that have now showed signs of failure. LCC have investigated this and they have completed surveys of all the sites. They have confirmed that they will be doing remedial works in the Spring.

Environment Agency Warns of Wet Weather Leading to Flood Risk this Weekend

Persistent rainfall is expected across north-west England over the weekend. The heaviest rain will fall across parts of Lancashire, Greater Manchester and the western parts of Yorkshire. There is a risk that some communities in these areas will experience river and surface water flooding of roads and properties later on Saturday and on Sunday.

Northern Joinery, based in Whitworth, Lancashire have been awarded an LBGF grant of £46,614. Northern Joinery is one of the country’s leading quality staircase manufacturers with considerable experience in the design and manufacture of timber staircases.

It boasts one of the best staircase-manufacturing plants in the UK with a capacity well in excess of 200 staircases per week.

Unsolicited Door Knocking as Council

The Council has been made aware of an incident in Water where a gentleman has knocked on the door of an elderly gentleman claiming to be from the Council about fitting a new boiler. This person is not from the Council and is not working on behalf of the Council.

The man had no ID, didn’t provide a name or an contact number.

The Stubbylee Park Masterplan

Rossendale Borough Council is working with local community groups and Newground to revitalise Stubbylee and the Moorlands Park, Bacup.

The Council has been formulating the masterplan for Stubbylee with the Park’s Friends Group, Bacup Pride, Newground, Stubbylee Community Greenhouses and local ward Councillors, to come up with a prosperous plan for this wonderful community asset.

Flooding: Help for Businesses

Boost for Business is running a Flood Recovery Grant Scheme to support businesses severely affected (either directly or indirectly) by the December 2015 flooding in Lancashire and the fund is open until February 28th 2016.

This grant scheme is to support small and medium sized businesses severely affected (either directly or indirectly) by the flooding of December 2015, to help businesses recover quickly and get back trading successfully and being sustainable.

“Be a Lover not a Fighter” Domestic Abuse Campaign

This is a North West partnership campaign across Cheshire, Merseyside, Blackburn, Blackpool and Lancashire.

1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men have suffered domestic abuse.  It’s not just physical violence. Domestic abuse can be emotional too – like threats and controlling behaviour.  It’s behind closed doors. It’s known, but not talked about.
