County deal an excellent opportunity for Rossendale

Council Leaders from across Lancashire have made an historic pledge to work together to deliver a bold vision for a County Deal to benefit the people of Lancashire. 

Rossendale is keen to be part of Lancashire’s emerging County Deal with central Government. The Deal would see potentially billions of pounds being devolved from Whitehall to Lancashire for the councils to spend on local priorities.

Public Consultation on Bacup Public Realm Enhancements

Rossendale Borough Council is asking the public for feedback on proposals to improve Bacup’s public realm. 

Bacup received over £1.18 million of Historic England funding as part of the High Street Heritage Action Zone project. The key outcomes of the project are upgrades for up to 22 buildings, public realm works to Burnley Road Memorial Garden, community events and a cultural programme.

Interested in becoming a Covid Centre Marshal?

Lancashire Volunteer Partnership (LVP) and the NHS are working in partnership to support the next stage of the NHS run Covid-19 vaccination programme, and are looking for volunteers to assist at Covid Vaccination sites as internal and external marshals across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

These roles provide coordination of patients/patient flow and wellbeing inside and outside the venues, with the main focus on safe patient navigation of the site and safe entry and exit of the building.

Lancashire public health chiefs welcome Plan B move

Lancashire’s Directors of Public Health have urged the public to take the threat of Omicron seriously, as they welcome the government’s decision to move to Plan B.

On Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that England will move to Plan B measures, as outlined in the Covid-19 Autumn/Winter Plan.

It comes as Omicron is spreading rapidly across the UK – with several cases confirmed in Lancashire and more expected.

Cards for Kindness launches as Christmas countdown continues

A heart-warming winter campaign encouraging people to send Christmas cards to residents in local care homes has launched this week (1 December). 

Cards for Kindness, now in its fourth year, aims to tackle loneliness and isolation in care homes across Lancashire and South Cumbria. 

The idea is that opening the Christmas card helps to start conversations and bring back happy memories.

You’re hired! Success for Rossendale Borough Council’s carers career fair

The event, held at Futures Park in Rossendale, was open to anyone interested in a future career in care.

Local Government Association Assesses Rossendale Council As ‘Impressive’

Rossendale Borough Council have hosted a visit of a team from the Local Government Association. The corporate peer challenge is used by councils across the country to understand how well they are delivering for local residents and to share ideas on how they can accelerate some of their plans. 

The team, made up of councillors and officials from other local authorities, found the council to be ‘really impressive’.

Council to hold carer careers fair

The event which runs from 2-4pm is open to everyone and is an opportunity for people who may be interested in care work to speak to local care businesses about job opportunities.

Climate Action Conference hailed a success by Council

Rossendale Council have thanked all those that attended and spoke at their recent conference on Climate Action in the borough. 

The conference held at the Ashcroft Centre in Whitworth was used as a platform to raise awareness and share information about grants and actions being taken locally to help reduce the overall carbon footprint for Rossendale.

Exciting work on Rawtenstall Town Square gets under way

Exciting plans to improve the town square area in Rawtenstall have been confirmed with an on-site start expected mid November.  

The scheme will see a much-improved area with new parks and garden space and a dedicated events area created. The plans follow on from the council’s earlier decision not to progress with future phases of Spinning Point in order to create a new public area.
