Areas within the new South Pennines Park are singing from the same hymn sheet – as stencilled lyrics have started to appear to visitor hot spots.
So far, the blue ‘graffiti’ featuring the final verse of the song ‘Chimneys, Moors and Me’ by folk due O’Hooley and Tidow has appeared outside the Kala Sangam Arts Centre in Bradford, Sunnyhurst Woods in Darwen, Bacup town centre in Rossendale and Towneley Park in Burnley – all areas within the new South Pennines Park.

A 35-year-old man from Rossendale has been found guilty of abandoning a vehicle by Burnley Magistrates Court, following a case brought by Rossendale Borough Council.
Mr Vincent Bagshaw of Foxhill Drive, Whitewell Bottom, Rossendale, was found guilty and ordered to pay costs as well as compensation.
Mr Bagshaw left the van parked with no MOT, no road tax and insecure.

An alternative National Park — covering 460 square miles of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester — including Rossendale, was launched today.
South Pennines Park aims to champion the landscape, its people and businesses in order to bolster recognition and unlock resources for the only upland in England that is not a designated National Park or Area of Outstanding Beauty.

Rossendale Council’s fight against the growth of fly tipping across the borough, Operation Trident, has issued fixed penalty notices amounting to more than £3,000 in the past few months.
The operation has successfully coordinated a three-pronged approach of Education, Enforcement and Removal, which aims to hold to account those responsible.
These offences include the dumping of a large fridge freezer by a man from Haslingden who received a £400 fixed penalty notice.

An employability Fair organised by Rossendale Works, which is run by Rossendale Council has been hailed a huge success.
Scores of jobs were on offer at local businesses who held stalls at the packed employability fair held at Rossendale Council chambers at Futures Park in Bacup.
A job seeker attending the event was delighted to walk away with an interview.

Valley Heritage have handed keys over to Rosslee Construction, in another major milestone in the Alliance @ Lancashire & Yorkshire Bank project.
Valley Heritage Trustee, Rachael Gildert, met contractors on site at the Bank for the official, practical, and symbolic handing over of the keys to the building. Rosslee are now able to access the building to commence initial works on site, making the building safe and secure for their staff before undertaking more complex work.

Local health bosses are encouraging parents to be aware of the signs of respiratory illnesses in young children, as data from Public Health England (PHE) shows cases are starting to rise in parts of the country.
Respiratory illnesses, including colds and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are very common in young children.

Rossendale Council will be funding a town floral display to celebrate 130 years since the incorporation of Rawtenstall.
The new floral display bed, which is being created overlooking St Mary’s Way, will kickstart the ‘Celebrate Rossendale’ events to mark the milestone in a nod to the former glories of the Library Gardens.

BUSINESSES, organisations and training providers will be setting out their stall at an employability event being organised by Rossendale Works.
It will be held on Friday August 20 in the Rossendale Council Chamber at Futures Park and will have 20 businesses represented with staff from the council’s employability projects Rossendale Works and Rossendale Youth Works also on hand.
