Rossendale’s working for 16-24 year olds

A YOUTH Hub has been opened in Rossendale to assist 16 to 24-year-olds become work ready and helped into employment. 

The hub, only the second in Lancashire and Cumbria, is based at Rossendale Council at Futures Park in Bacup and funded by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). 

It is manned by Jobcentre youth work coaches Natasha Woods and Liam Hickey and is supported by the council’s employability programmes Rossendale Works, which has been running for three years, and sister project Rossendale Youth Works.

Pop-up Covid-19 vaccination clinics coming to Rossendale

Pop-up Covid-19 vaccination clinics are coming to Rawtenstall and Haslingden, bringing vaccines closer to people living in those areas.

Giving people the first dose of the Pfizer vaccines, these temporary facilities make getting a jab easier and more convenient, with clinicians on hand to answer questions and address any concerns people might have.

Council encourage all to get tested as rates rise in Rossendale

As rates of Covid cases rise across Rossendale,  everyone who lives or works in the borough are strongly encouraged to take a COVID-19 PCR test, whether they are showing symptoms or not, to help track the spread of the latest Variant of Concern. 

Rossendale is now amongst the top areas in the national table of areas with the most Covid cases.

Council launch Operation Trident in fight against fly tipping

Rossendale Council have this month launched Operation Trident in their fight against the growth of fly tipping across the borough.  

The operation will coordinate a three pronged approach of Education, Enforcement and Removal and aims to hold to account those responsible. 

One of Operation Trident’s first enquiries saw enforcement officers conduct enquiries on an incident which occurred on 15th May and which was captured on video by a witness.

Council issue fixed penalty for fly tipping

A Rossendale householder who failed to ensure their waste was collected and disposed of correctly has been issued with a £300 fixed penalty notice under the Environmental Protection Act. 

The resident arranged for waste to be collected from their home address but didn’t check if the person removing the waste was authorised to do so, or where the rubbish would be disposed of.

Now that Census Day has passed, scammers are taking the opportunity to take advantage of the potential fine imposed onto non-compliant members of the public. This has resulted in an array of phishing sites going live.

Rossendale Borough Council thanks residents for census response

Rossendale Borough Council is saying a big thank you to all its residents for their outstanding response to this year’s census, which was held on March 21.

Despite the many challenges in delivering a census during a global pandemic, the response rate in Rossendale has exceeded the council’s target response rate.

Rossendale elections leaves no party in overall control

Local elections for Rossendale Borough Council held on 6th May left no one party in overall political control of the council. Prior to the election Labour had a small majority. Following the election and then subsequent discussions within each political group Labour have 18 seats, Conservative 13, Community First 2 and the council has 3 Independent councillors.

Free rapid Covid-19 tests available to all in Lancashire

RAPID coronavirus testing is now available to everyone in Lancashire, as the county heads out of lockdown and looks towards its recovery.

From 9th April 2021 rapid coronavirus testing kits for people with no symptoms are available to everyone in England, with people encouraged to test themselves twice a week. Alongside the rollout of the vaccine, regular testing is at the heart of plans to reopen society and the economy, helping to suppress and control the spread of any possible variants.
