The Old Town Hall in Rawtenstall to go purple in celebration of Census 2021

The Old Town Hall in Rawtenstall will join more than a hundred buildings and landmarks across England and Wales by lighting up purple to celebrate the upcoming census and its importance to communities.

The event is being organised by The Office for National Statistics (ONS) to raise awareness of census day on March 21, a survey that happens every ten years and gives a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.

Tributes paid following death of respected councillor

Everyone at Rossendale Borough Council would like to pass on their condolences to the family and friends of Cllr Terry Haslam- Jones who died suddenly on 11 March.  

Terry was a well respected Councillor for Stacksteads Ward with close ties to the community he served and sat on many committees including the Bacup Community Partnership.

The webinar will provide support for these businesses by answering questions they may have and offer guidance and advice around complying with the COVID guidelines to keep everyone safe.

Civic Pride Rossendale appoint new Chair

Civic Pride Rossendale (CPR) have appointed a new Chair and Vice Chair after current incumbents Roger Grimshaw and Helen Thomas –Laight stepped down. 

Sue Shuttleworth has been appointed as Chair and Yvonne Malley as Vice Chair. Sue who has been a dedicated member of CPR for many years inspired, persuaded, nagged, and physically dug the ground of the site for the much-loved train on the roundabout which was named Rawtenstall Sue in her honour.

Managing Director of Play Market Management Dan Gregson and Operations Manager Steven Malcolm have ambitious goals to see the Rossendale Council-owned market emulating the success of Altrincham Market and Manchester’s Mackie Mayor.

Covid-19 Roadmap: Step 4

Step 4 of the Covid-19 Roadmap

Most Covid-19 measures, including face coverings and social distancing, were lifted on Monday 19 July

Other changes are: –

  • No limits on social contact
  • Work from home guidance abolished
  • Nightclubs can open and large events can resume (sports stadiums, theatres and cinemas can open with no limit on capacity)
  • Capacity and table service restrictions lifted for hospitality
  • Limit on named visitors to care homes will be lifted

Rossendale Council is advising residents to continue wearing face masks to keep themselves and others safe and to act cautiously when reacting to the latest easing of restrictions.

New funding announced for Rossendale town square improvements

A new fund to help Lancashire’s economic recovery following the impacts of Covid-19 has awarded £150,000 to the refurbishment of Rawtenstall Town Square.

Lancashire County Council has recognised the benefits of completing the Rawtenstall town square, which will enhance the new Bus Station environment and neighbouring multi-million pound scheme to refurbish the Old Town Hall.

Additional funding awarded for The Whitaker

The Whitaker and Rossendale Borough Council have announced a 12-month extension to the redevelopment project at the museum and art gallery in Rawtenstall. The impact of Covid-19 delayed some parts of the project but thanks to an additional grant of £250k from National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sports Capital Kickstarter funding, work will be able to carry on.

The East Lancashire Cycleway Network aims to transform cycling in the area, making it easier for people to use their bikes to access opportunities by improving links to workplaces, schools, shops and services.
