Council workshop support for small businesses

Rossendale Borough council will be holding a series of free workshops for businesses over the coming weeks with the first one scheduled for Tuesday 17th November. 

The workshops are being led by the council’s business advisor Brad Hacking:” This is such an incredibly tough time for businesses, and we want to make sure that we are there as much as possible.

The current restrictions have seen bars and pubs close from Saturday 17 October. Other businesses are also affected which include; bingo halls, bookmakers and betting shops, car boot sales, soft play areas adult gaming centres (amusement arcades), licenced clubs e.g.

Remembrance Day 2020

Following in depth meetings with Parade organisers, Rossendale Borough Council, the Police, Jake Berry MP and others, we regret to announce that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no Remembrance Parades in Rossendale this year.  Also, due to the recently implemented ‘Rule of Six’, neither will there be any Remembrance Services around Cenotaphs in the Valley, as it would be unlawful to hold such Services.

Grant applications open for businesses closed due to COVID-19

Businesses across Rossendale that have been forced to close due to local restrictions can now apply for a support grant.

 The new Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG) supports businesses that were open as usual, but were then required to close due to local lockdown restrictions.

Businesses within the hospitality, leisure and accommodation sectors are entitled to apply for this funding, such as bars and pubs, bingo halls and soft play areas.

New COVID-19 Test Centre for Rossendale

Rossendale is set to have its own dedicated COVID-19 testing centre.

The centre — a secure and semi-permanent marquee, which will be manned full time for the next three months — will open on the town square in the centre of Rawtenstall on Friday (30 October).

The COVID-19 testing station will only be open to people with symptoms who book a test via either the government website or the app.

Local Authority Emergency Assistance Grant Scheme

The Local Authority Emergency Assistance Grant for Food and Essential Supplies is a one-off limited contribution for local authorities in England to use to support people who are struggling to afford food and other essentials due to COVID-19.

Applicants must:

· Be at least 18 years of age

· Be resident in Burnley, Pendle or Rossendale

· Be able to demonstrate that they struggling to afford food and / or other essentials due to Covid-19.

Lottery funded expansion of the Whitaker takes shape

VISITORS to Whitaker Park in Rawtenstall cannot fail to miss that the £1.9million transformation of The Whitaker Museum has begun. 

Waterfoot-based construction company B&E Boys started on site on June 29 and already the steel framework that will form the new cafe bar has been installed. 

The former barn and stables will become an events and community space with a catering kitchen.

Rossendale borough council are urging people to complete a survey to help establish the views and attitudes of residents regarding the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions placed on them.  

Lancashire was placed in Tier 3, very high alert, last weekend. This means the closure of pubs and bars not serving food, as well as betting shops, casinos and adult gaming centres.

Rossendale Works secures funding for youth employment programme

A BESPOKE council youth project to help 18-25 year olds in Rossendale into work has received funding from the Department of Work and Pensions.

The Rossendale Council scheme will offer a holistic and tailored approach working with partners and using the experience gained by the hugely successful Rossendale Works project.

Rossendale Council Leader Councillor Alyson Barnes said: “I am delighted to announce that the council’s Economic Development department has secured £50,000 to extender our employability offer.
