A new dawn for Bacup as Council bids for £11 million boost

An ambitious plan to secure a vibrant sustainable future for Bacup town centre is being submitted for millions of pounds of government regeneration funding.

Already businesses, residents and visitors have witnessed a rebirth in the town thanks to works carried out with Townscape Heritage Initiative money which was secured by Rossendale Borough Council (RBC).

Futures Park completion for new 50,000 sqft building for Orthoplastics

Rossendale Council working with contractors Barnfield Construction have completed the construction of a purpose-built UK headquarters for the US owned Orthoplastics company.

 

Orthoplastics produce high quality medical products such as knee replacements, mainly for the global export market.

The building has now been handed over to the business with a 25-year lease agreement but will remain under the ownership of the Council.

This Years Invest in Rossendale Event Success

COVID-19 restrictions meant this year’s Invest In Rossendale meeting between Rossendale Council, business association Valley at Work and East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce went online via Zoom.

The guest speaker at this year’s event was Edge Hill University Professor Simon Bolton.

Simon who has worked in more than 40 countries, had a manufacturing business in China and had been a problem solver for Proctor and Gamble advised the local business leaders to dedicate time to managing their business and not let it manage them, to ensure future success.

Coronavirus rise in Rossendale

The council is aware of a recent small surge in coronavirus cases for Rossendale. 

Our overall rate of positive cases has always been relatively low, so any increase will be monitored closely.  This sudden increase is largely related to an outbreak at a local school premises and a small number of licensed premises in the borough.

Refresh for Early Strategic Case for Investment – Rawtenstall to Manchester, The Valley City Link

Rossendale Council has reappointed CEBR consultants to conduct a refresh of the early strategic case for investment for the Rawtenstall to Manchester rail link. 

The 2018 study produced by CEBR identified five possible delivery options to restore the Rawtenstall to Manchester route. These included an expansion of the Metrolink, heavy rail reconnection and a combination of shuttle options involving the heritage railway.

Information following the Government’s announcement on Friday about easing of restrictions in Rossendale

On Friday 21st August the Government lifted the additional restrictions which had been in place in Rossendale for the past few weeks. This takes affect from Wednesday 26th August.

 

This brings us in line with the rest of the country (except those areas which are still subject to local measures) and means that businesses which reopened across the country on August 15th can now reopen in Rossendale.

EASING OF COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS FOR ROSSENDALE

The council is pleased that the Government has decided to ease the additional Covid 19 lockdown restrictions recently introduced to Rossendale as part of the wider imposition on parts of East Lancashire, Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire.

The level of new Covid-19 cases in Rossendale has remained consistently low since the recovery from the first surge in the Spring.

Official RBC Statement

Rossendale Council working with the partner organisations involved with the Bacup 2040 Board have successfully secured funding from the government’s High Street Heritage Action Zone to enhance historic buildings and features in the centre of Bacup https://www.rossendalenews.org.uk/delight-over-bacup-funding-success/ .

The four year project which will run from 2020-2024 includes an element of funding to enhance the centrepiece coronation fountain with the restoration of the water feature.
