The leader of Rossendale Council has asked Lancashire County Council to rethink its decision to keep the recycling centre in Haslingden closed despite others in the county reopening.
Councillor Alyson Barnes said she welcomed news county were reopening centres but said she was left very disappointed when it was confirmed Rossendale”s one would not be among them.

Coronavirus has had a terrible toll on us all in this borough. But we are a resilient folk in Rossendale. And as a borough, we have responded magnificently to this awful virus.
Everyone has played their part in limiting the spread of the virus, protecting the NHS and keeping people safe – by staying at home, by strictly social distancing when out, by volunteering to help and by keeping an eye out on vulnerable neighbours.

A pioneering employability programme of projects that has helped more than 60 people in Rossendale back into work has adapted to the challenges brought by COVID-19 by moving online.
Rossendale Works and Futures are Rossendale Council projects, which from May 1 is being funded by European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) as part of the More Positive Together Project.

Nominations from community or voluntary groups in Rossendale are being sought for the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
The award, described as an MBE for charities and community groups, recognises outstanding work done by groups in their own communities.
Any group doing volunteer work that provides a social, economic or environmental service to the local community can be nominated for the award.

The leader of Rossendale Council is joining other Lancashire local authorities in calling for the Government to reassure them they will be fully reimbursed for the cost of dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak.
Earlier this week, the Government announced a second allocation of money for Lancashire to support the efforts being made to keep residents, especially the most vulnerable, safe and protected.

The leader of Rossendale Council has welcomed Lancashire County Council’s latest update on reopening the borough’s recycling centre in Haslingden.
Lancashire County Council has announced it is putting plans in place to reopen the centres but no firm details have been outlined yet.
Councillor Alyson Barnes said:
“A lot of residents have raised with me that they feel Haslingden recycling centre should be open especially as there appears to be a rise in flytipping.

As keen bikers they were booked to go on a charity ride in the Isle of Man – dressed as Evel Knievel!

Residents in Rossendale are being invited to join in with a ‘stay at home street party’ to commemorate 75 years since VE Day.
Due to the coronavirus lockdown, plans to mark the anniversary across the borough have had to be cancelled.
But leader of the council, Councillor Alyson Barnes, hopes the residents will celebrate at home with bunting, afternoon tea and a doorstep sing-a-long.

Rossendale Council has issued tree preservation orders on three sites near Lumb.
The orders stop anyone from cutting down, topping, lopping, uprooting, wilfully damaging or wilfully destroying any of the trees specified without the consent of the Council.

Lancashire colleges and universities are using the latest technology to help young people and adults to make the right choice about their future education and training ahead of the start of the new academic year in September.
Despite the COVID-19 outbreak, colleges, universities and other education providers across the county, including school sixth forms, are working hard to ensure that individuals can find out about the fantastic education, training and apprenticeship opportunities that are available locally.
