The Leader of Rossendale Council is asking everyone in the borough to take part in a nationwide round of applause for NHS workers
Councillor Alyson Barnes is appealing to residents to join in a gesture of thanks to frontline healthcare heroes by taking part in a mass round of applause from their doorsteps, windows and balconies on Thursday at 8pm.

A hub to support the communities, families and individuals facing tough times because of the coronavirus outbreak and the stepping up of social distancing and isolation measures is set to be launched.
Rossendale Connected Hub is a partnership between Rossendale Council, Rossendale Leisure Trust, the Rossendale Primary Care Network, Burnley Pendle Rossendale CVS and a wide range of community partner organisations and volunteers.

People are being warned about a series of scams related to the coronavirus.
Rossendale Council are backing The Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI)’s warnings issued after reports that scammers are targeted people both in person and through technology and through price rises in shops throughout the country.
One scam involves fake healthcare workers claiming to be offering ?home-testing?

This week, the Government announced further measures to try and curb the spread of coronavirus.
This is an extremely worrying time for everyone in the borough. But it is important we follow the government’s advice and guidance.
The measures to increase social distancing include:
· Shopping for basic necessities
- One form of exercise a day
- Medical need
- To care for a vulnerable person
- Travelling to work only when absolutely necessary.

Anyone with a NoWcard pass in Lancashire, Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool can use it for free travel before 9.30am in the morning from Monday 23 March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The restriction on using concessionary travel passes during the morning peak has been lifted to allow pass holders to take advantage of those shops that are now dedicating the first hour of shopping to older and vulnerable people.

We know many businesses and their employees are worried. We are facing an unprecedented public health crisis.
An announcement was made by the chancellor for support to businesses on Tuesday.
The government has also set up a support helpline.
Rossendale Council’ s Economic Development Team are logging requests from local businesses for support, but we await further information on how any funding may be distributed.

Civic Pride Rossendale (CPR) is recruiting volunteers for Outreach work with local young people. Do you have experience in teaching or working with youth groups? If so, says Roger Grimshaw, Chair of CPR, this is an opportunity to get involved with promoting Civic Pride’s ideas to schools and youth groups in the Valley, and hopefully to encourage more people to take part in activities that benefit the local environment.
