Rossendale Council has submitted an application to the Government’s Restoring Your Railway Fund. This is a new fund announced by the Government to bring forward rail infrastructure. Successful bidders will be awarded £50,000 to supplement feasibility work and can link to further capital funding.
In 2018, the Council developed an early strategic case for investment which identified five possible delivery options and concluded that such a link was both feasible and viable.

Council Leader, Alyson Barnes, has updated on the latest situation around coronavirus and the Council’s response to it:
I know residents and businesses are incredibly worried about coronavirus. It is the worst public health crisis in a generation.
As a Council, please be reassured we are working with Lancashire County Council, Public Health England, the NHS and others so we are fully prepared to tackle this in our borough.

We’re all aware that the industrial revolution had a dramatic effect on the valley over the last 250 years but were there people living here in earlier times? In the Middle Ages? Roman times? Prehistory?
The recently formed South Pennine Archaeology Group (SPAG) based in Rawtenstall are determined find out and have already made some interesting discoveries.

The vast majority of your Council Tax ( 86%) funds County Council and Police and Fire Services in Lancashire.

The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

The leader of Rossendale Council has welcomed progress on Bacup’s multi-million pound bid to improve the town centre.
At tonight’s Cabinet, councillors will receive a report outlining progress on the bid and some very initial concept ideas for the town.
Bacup is in the running for Future High Streets funding and council officers are working closely with councillors, community groups, residents and businesses to put together a credible bid to government.

Christmas planning has come early in Haslingden and Helmshore.
That’s because the local civic pride group have planted a tree ready for lighting at Christmas.
Haslingden and Helmshore Civic Pride purchased the rooted Nordic spruce tree and planted it in Greenfield Memorial gardens on Tuesday, February 24.
Rossendale Council assisted and, once it has grown to size, will help fit an electricity supply so the tree can be decorated with lights.

Following on from Storm Dennis and Storm Ciara, there has been some confusion over grants and compensation for people affected by flooding and storm damage.
Any compensation comes from a Government scheme – the Flood Recovery Framework. This is for local council areas that had been significantly impacted.
The criteria for who is eligible for funding is determined by the government not Rossendale Council.

Rossendale Council has announced an extension to a pioneering local employment project that has helped hundreds of people in the two years since it launched.
The scheme, Rossendale Works, is designed to encourage people to initially participate in physical activity before helping them back into employment through work experience and training, matching them with local businesses who have placement opportunities.
