The Leader of Rossendale Council has welcomed news the Red Express bus service will be retained.
Councillor Alyson Barnes said:

Rossendale Council is asking for comments on the proposed allocation of the Gyspy and Traveller Transit site at the former Little Tooter Quarry, Sharneyford, as part of the emerging Rossendale Local Plan.
The consultation documents and further information and can be found on the Council’s website as well as at the One Stop Shop (Futures Park) and at local libraries.

Penalties totalling more than £1,400 have been handed to three people for offences in the borough.
Khalid Jamil (60), director of Driven Cab Rental registered at Unit 11, Sovereign Enterprise Park, King William Street, Salford, was found guilty of obstructing a Rossendale Borough Council officer by failing to give the location of a vehicle.

Comment from Rossendale Borough Council Leader Councillor Alyson Barnes on the funding proposals to improve traffic and air quality on St Mary’s Way, including the gyratory, in Rawtenstall. The issue will be discussed at a Lancashire County Council Cabinet meeting on Thursday, January 16th.
It is part of the report on the Proposed Submission to the Department for Transport’s Local Pinch Point Fund.

Haslingden resident Barbara Holden, 80, has been handed a new lease of life after Rossendale Council awarded her a Disabled Facilities Grant, and arranged much-needed changes to her home.
The grants are available to support people with disabilities if they need to adapt their house or install specialist equipment.
They are designed to improve freedom of movement in and around people’s homes giving access to essential facilities and keeping them safe in their home.

2020 has started well for Civic Pride Rossendale (CPR). Unable to attend the mass Rawtenstall clean up on New Year’s Day, one of our CPR volunteers was in Waterfoot centre at 7am on New Year’s Day to clear up the carnage from the previous evening! Three hours later, the area was transformed as can be seen from the photos of the bus stop on Bacup Road.

Work to crack down on rogue landlords in Rossendale will continue after the Council was awarded more money to help tackle the issue.
The Council was successful in an initial bid for £18k in 2018 from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
That money has been used in a multi-agency approach to clampdown on bad practices in the private rented sector, concentrating on making landlords comply with fire safety legislation and meet minimum privately rented standards.

The Leader of the Council has raised her concerns again over the ending of two health and wellbeing services and has offered to work with partners to look for a solution.
The Lancashire Wellbeing Service (LWS), a programme, which supports thousands of people across Lancashire with low-level health and social care issues, has ended while funding for Rossendale’s Home Improvement Agency will cease in March.
