Rossendale is set to glitter this Christmas as festive lights turn on across the borough.
Fun performances, parades and tasty food will entertain the crowds before the lights turn on to mark the official start of Christmas.
Whitworth is first to light up on Sunday, November 24th at the Civic Hall at 6pm.

Community heroes from across Rossendale were crowned at Rossendale Council’s 2019 Community Awards at the Riverside, Whitworth.
The awards, held on Thursday, November 14, celebrated individuals and groups who go the extra mile to support others and help make their neighbourhoods better places to live.
120 nominations were made, with 34 finalists in attendance hoping to scoop one of eleven awards handed out on the night.

A fact-finding tour of Manchester’s Trafford towns gave some inspiration for the regeneration of Bacup town centre.
The ‘seeing is believing’ tour was organised by Rossendale Council’s Economic Development Unit in conjunction with IntoPlaces, a consultancy borne out of the team that led Altrincham Forward.
Council representatives, along with residents from business, heritage and the community, hopped on a bus to visit Urmston and Altrincham.

People gathered all over Rossendale to pay their respects to those who lost their lives in both World Wars and other conflicts.
Moving services and parades took place all over the borough as people paid their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
On Remembrance Sunday, November 19th, Rawtenstall held the traditional parade in the Town Square before heading to St Mary’s Church for a service.

The Mayor of Rossendale’s Charity Fashion Show is taking place this month.
The evening will feature Dawn Rose clothing, jewellery, accessories and gifts of Crawshawbooth along with The Bodyshop and Made by Mel.
It takes place on Tuesday, 26th November at 7pm at Bacup Cricket Club, 44 Lanehead Lane, Bacup, OL13 9BT.

A landmark building in Bacup town centre is to be transformed and preserved for future generations to use.
The iconic Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank, on the corner of Market Street and Union Street, stands proud with its corner turret, four Harry Potter-esque gargoyles, three shields and two lions – even the bank safe remains in the basement.

The Leader of Rossendale Council, Councillor Alyson Barnes, has praised the borough’s pride groups after they achieved several In Your Neighbourhood awards.
Pride groups in Bacup, Whitworth, Haslingden, Weir, Waterfoot as well as Civic Pride Rossendale were all recognised for their various projects.
In Your Neighbourhood awards are organised by Royal Horticultural Society Britain In Bloom.

The future is electric – and it’s coming to Rossendale!
The Council is holding an open day for people to find out more about electric vehicles and their benefits to both local business and the environment.
The half-day workshop will take place on Tuesday, November 5 from 10.30am-3pm in the Council Chamber at Future’s Park.

Rossendale will play host to Remembrance Day activity taking place up and down the Valley.
The series of events will start with a concert in Bacup on Sunday, November 3.
Acre Mill Baptist Church on Hammond Avenue will play host to the concert, which starts at 2:30pm. It will feature the Rossendale Male Voice Choir and the Stacksteads Band.
