Council pledges support for volunteers as it praises great work borough’s Pride groups do

Rossendale Council has today launched a new scheme to help residents who want to do their bit for the community.

Leader of the Council Alyson Barnes announced Council support for individuals who want to keep their clean and tidy by offering litter picking equipment for them to use.

The borough is blessed with a number of superb Pride groups, including Bacup Pride who are pictured, which have improved the borough enormously.

Council leader delight at opening of new cycleway

The Leader of Rossendale Council has expressed her delight after the latest section of the Valley of Stone was officially.

A procession of over 400 cyclists and walkers celebrated the opening of a new section of the East Lancashire Cycleway in Waterfoot.

Work has recently been completed to reopen two railway tunnels which have been out of use for decades, and extend an existing path, to create a safe and interesting off-road link between Stacksteads Riverside Park and Newchurch Road.

Abandoned cars see owner fined

A man has been fined after being found guilty of dumping vehicles on land in Rossendale.

John Andrew (44), of Rose Street, Waterfoot was charged with two counts of Abandoning Motor Vehicles contrary to section 2 of the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978.

After pleading not guilty he was found guilty at Burnley Magistrates Court on August 29th 2019.

Sweet supremo James Averdieck served up the secrets of his success to business owners keen to learn from his experience.

The second Invest in Rossendale evening, a joint event between Rossendale Borough Council and Valley at Work, which connects local businesses, was held at The Riverside in Whitworth.

With food and drink becoming a booming area in Rossendale, the founder of Gü Desserts, who now runs healthy vegan venture The Coconut Collaborative, explained his recipe to riches was to first have ‘a good idea’.

Work is starting on a new business site to bring 100 jobs to Rossendale

Futures Business Park in Bacup will see the vacant Plot 5, near to Lee Quarry, transformed into the site for an international factory.

The building will be a manufacturing facility for Orthoplastics, which is a world leader in the development and supply of implantable medical devices for the orthopaedic sector, involving musculo-skeletal issues.

Statement on ‘hard to reach’ bin collections from Tony Watson, Head of Environment and Operations:

From 30th September 2019, waste and recycling collections for some people in Rossendale will change.

People living in hard to reach homes, usually rural properties, which are not suitable for the standard Refuse Collection Vehicles, or have road surfaces which are unsuitable to travel on, will change to a ‘lane end’ bin collection service.

Play area officially opens as “Top 15” Stubbylee Park impresses

A Rossendale play area has officially opened after undergoing an £80k transformation.

The equipment in Stubbylee Park has been upgraded to include a jungle climber, five-way swing, scooter roundabout, music cottage, wizard’s hideaway and a cradle seat swing.

Bacup Pride and Newground  worked with Rossendale Council to secure the funding from Viridor Credits Environmental Company and Lancashire Environmental Fund.

Council Leader, Cllr Alyson Barnes was a visitor to the HARRI truck, the NHS’s health and wellbeing engagement vehicle at Rawtenstall Market on Thursday, August 29.

The mobile truck is an initiative by Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust and has been all around East Lancashire.

It is kitted out to provide a full range of advice and information about various health initiatives.

Crackdown on rogue landlords

Rossendale Borough Council has used new funding to tackle rogue landlords and illegal practices in private renting.

The Council applied for Rogue Landlord Funding in 2018 from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and were successful in the bid.

The money has been used in a multi-agency approach to clampdown on dodgy practices in the private rented sector, concentrating on making landlords comply with fire safety legislation and meet minimum privately rented standards.

Bacup’s Future High Streets Fund bid success

Rossendale Council has welcomed news that Bacup has been included in an expanded list of towns that have progressed in a bid to benefit from the Government’s £1 billion Future High Streets Fund.

The Council has made improving the borough’s town centres its number one economic development strategy priority.

Following this decision, time and resources have been concentrated to try to bring much needed new investment in.
