After a successful first event last year, Valley At Work and Rossendale Council have joined forces once again to put on an event to celebrate and support business in the borough.

Haslingden Town Centre has been now been confirmed as an area of special architectural or historic interest – helping to preserve its history.
The conservation area was developed and put out to public consultation in 2018. The Council’s cabinet approved the area before submitting it to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, who confirmed the decision earlier this year.

A builder who repeatedly ignored Rossendale Council’s calls to restore land behind a former rural pub has been heavily fined.
The Council welcomed Preston Crown Court’s £81,699 fine for Stanley Ainsworth and Ribble Valley Luxury Homes Limited for ignoring a planning enforcement notice.
Ainsworth secured planning permission to convert the former Glory pub in Loveclough but he and his company breached Council planning regulations when he extended the rear boundary into the open countryside without the benefit of planning permission.

The Leader of Rossendale Council has welcomed news that a bid for funding for Haslingden town centre has progressed to the next stage.
Earlier this year, the Council submitted an expression of interest to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for money to help transform the town. The Council also ring-fenced money to support the bid.

Rossendale Council has halted using weed killer in its parks and plays areas.
The Council has taken action following recent concern over the use of glyphosate, which has been described as probably carcinogenic to humans” by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, an arm of the World Health Organisation.

Rossendale residents are being offered free smart meters to help look at cutting costs and becoming more energy efficient.
The smart meter rollout is a national programme across Great Britain.
Smart meters are being offered at no extra cost by major energy suppliers.
They are not compulsory, but are the next generation of gas and electricity meters and can help to identify situations where residents are using a lot of energy and might want to make changes to this.

An innovative Rossendale employability project has been expanded thanks to a grant from the Department of Work and Pensions.
The Rossendale Council scheme – initially set up for a 12-month trial period in partnership with Active Lancashire – was so successful it has been expanded.
Rossendale Works helps people who are job ready to seek placements and employment.

The leader of Rossendale Council has announced her new cabinet as councillors met for the first Council meeting of the municipal year.
Councillor Alyson Barnes was elected leader by fellow councillors at the meeting last Friday.
She appointed a new look Cabinet and announced new portfolios to better align with the Council’s priorities.

Rossendale Council has expressed its disappointment about County’s decision to close Haslingden Household Waste Recycling Centre for two days a week.
Lancashire County Council’s cabinet has also agreed proposals to change opening times to 9am – 5pm all year round.
Responding to the decision, Councillor Jackie Oakes, Portfolio holder for Operations, said:
As a Council, we are very disappointed about this decision.
